Model A1586 (GSM) vs Model A1586 (CDMA).

Hi everybody,

I would like a clarification on Model A1586 (GSM) vs Model A1586 (CDMA). What is the difference and how can i specify that in the online order?

Does both models support both GSM and CDMA or not? I would like to use my phone to other EU countries so will my decision of GSM or CDMA affect coverage?

Thanks

@Lawerence, I agree with what you are saying. As the A1586 model is used in both the US and Europe then this model should not have a problem being fixed in either country under warranty.

Perhaps when a certain model is not used in a particular country then that is when it cannot be fixed?.

That's one good reason. Another is the store manager may not want to get involved in a repair that the store cannot be reimbursed for by Apple, or they want to save their inventory of replacements for their own customers. I don't know for sure, but if Apple is like most companies local spare parts inventories provided by the parent company are based on the sales volume of the local business unit, so if they provide replacements for out-of-towners they won't have enough for their own customers.

From a buyer's perspective, however, you are taking a chance if you buy a phone in one country to use in a different country. You may or may not be able to get it serviced by Apple.

As for whether the A1586 model bought in the US will work in the UK - I am now in the UK and the phone is working fine on 3G on the Giffgaff/O2 network within the UK.

Whilst in the US I purchased an Iphone 6 A1586 model that is locked to the Sprint CDMA network in the US but unlocked to GSM. I was informed in the apple store that this would work on GSM networks as it is only locked on CDMA in the US (Sprint network in my case).

My plan is due to be upgraded to a 4G plan on Giffgaff/O2 this weekend, so I will report back to confirm whether 4G is working or not then. 😀

My 4G plan became active today and I am happy to report that it is working great. How did I live with 3G all these years!?

As stated previously the phone I bought is locked to the Sprint Network in the USA on CDMA, however I do not believe it matters what US network it is locked to as the US networks use CDMA and the A1586 bought in the US is unlocked to all GSM carriers.

I saved about £140 by buying it in the US. Very happy with it. 🙂
