So this blog ha been going for two years and still no fix.
come on Apple step up to this issue. It's a real pain.
Your anger should be directed to the manufacturer of you router who should have had a firmware update to accommodate the advanced technology of the new Apple iPad Air 2! A lot of these companies still consider Apple a "fringe" market and don't do the necessary updates in tech as they old will still work on most Windows and Android devices.
I have Time Warner for my cable and my internet. When I added phone service, thy had to come out and replace the modem. It also has router capability (it's an Arris) but on the advice of the Apple Store, I told them to NOT turn that on and to let me still use my Apple Extreme router as it works quite well for me. I think this may be the case with these cable companies combination modem/routers. If I were having trouble, that would be the first place I'd look when troubleshooting.
there is nothing wrong with router manufacturers. their routers have been working well for a long time. it is the air2 that causes the problem.
I agree with you completely - WAY over my head with all this talk of settings etc!!!! That's why I simply purchased an Apple Extreme router (if I hadn't already had a Le Cie external HD I would have purchased the Apple Time Capsule). These are for the "rest of us" who have no knowledge of network settings on router, nor want to learn about them!!!! I have great respect for those who have networks where they must know these things, but for most of us at home with a computer or two, a few iPads and iPhones - well, this is a family not a network that needs an IT specialist to make it work. Just suck it up and go buy Apple and plug and it will work!
It is NOT an Apple problem! Most of these routers were made for Windows/Android devices. When Apple was a small niche market, nobody cared. It no longer is with iPhones and iPads being huge sellers.
I recently had a problem when my son visited. He has a Windows laptop. Now my iPad and iPhone, and my grandsons' iPads and iPhones have always worked perfectly on the network in my house. My son's children had their iPads with them as well, but we all quickly started having problems. I called Apple and they said to unplug the Apple Express bridged that I have used to get better wifi in my house (router/modem in basement). They said that many older products (the Express is at least 5 yrs old) have problems with both Apple and Windows on the same network. Apparently, the Windows machines "steal' all the bandwidth, leaving the Apple products working very erratically. I unplugged the Apple Express and we were fine for the rest of his visit. The tech support did say that this would not happen with the newer Apple routers (both mine are about 5-6 yrs old). When darling son left, I once again plugged in the Apple Express and got even better wifi.
It IS an Apple problem. I've been using almost every Apple product, including iMac/Macbook, iphone4/4s/5/5s/6, ipad2/3/air. None of them (and of course my other windows/android devices) has any problem with my router. Air2 is the first one that show such a problem. STOP justifying for Apple. There have already been so many software issues with Apple lately. I am not here to bash Apple, but hope this issue be noticed and addressed.
That's right. I have upgraded my router year ago to a dual band N for £100. Got probably 13 wireless devices at home and had not a problem since air2
After reading the last few comments on....... it's a Router problem, no it's the iPad Air 2 problem, no it's a Router problem.
I then got to thinking about it and here are my thoughts.
When using the new iPad Air 2 when it's in wake mode, the connection to Wifi and to Router is just fine. Everyone will agree to that right.
It is only when the Air 2 goes to sleep that this problem begins to show up.
So to me, the problem has to be with the Air 2 since Wifi with the router works fine before it goes to sleep. I don't think the router has any control over wake/sleep mode of devices.
There must be something wrong in the Air 2 sleep configuration.
It doesn't serve anyone to fight about whose problem it was, Apple or the routers. Wireless networking is based on a set of standards specifically to prevent things like single devices using up all the bandwidth or not speaking to each other, but everyone goes off standard in little ways in order to create a differentiate product. So someone's non-standard modification, Apple or the router manufacturer, is causing problems. Generally, I think its incumbent on the guy who releases the newer product to ensure backward compatibility (i.e. how would people who release the old product know what was coming in the future) or disclose/acknowledge the compatibility issue with older tech up front.
I just think, and am concerned, that this particular issue, unlike the documented wifi issues in iOS 8.0.1, are affecting a much smaller subset of the population, and in specific circumstances, that Apple AND the router companies do not care to resolve.
Apple is often the first to use new technology. Older routers may or may not work with this. Apple has always had a history of trying to make older hardware not become obsolete when new software is introduced - just look at how many older computers and iPads the new Yosemite and iOS8 will work on - but at some point, they must go with the new. And yes, that costs us money as we finally must upgrade.
If it were the sleep that was the problem, wouldn't EVERYONE be having trouble with losing their wifi connection? If this were so, I think we'd have heard about this in the press.
I have actually experience both - the sleep disconnect more often, but the awake disconnect as well, but typically that occurs most right after I "corrected" a sleep disconnect by toggling wifi. For example, this morning, by Air2 was connected from when I went to bed to a last notification about 4hrs after I went to bed (or at least I assume it was connected for that long - that was the last notification I saw that it received). I had to toggle wifi as soon as I woke it up, and then it disconnected again 2 min after while I was using it.
Come to think of it, maybe the disconnects occur on the wakeup of the devices - I seem to remember always seeing fairly recent notifications before I wake up the iPad and realize the iPad is disconnected.
Well, my does even while streaming youtube or chatting on facebook messenger. I have found that my router got new firmware upgrade released couple weeks ago so will try it tonight and see if that helps.
I have purchased air2 from Apple store online and from local PCWORLD. Both have same issue.
hmmm, you make a good point, hadn't thought of that lol
