iPad Air 2 WiFi Issues

I'm having WiFi connectivity issues on my new iPad Air 2 (WiFi only). I'm having to turn WiFi off and on to reset my connection. Restarting and restoring hasn't fixed the issue.

I Have exactly the same issue with my 64g air 2 and it is beyond annoying, the easiest fix for me is to toggle airplane mode but connection does not remain stable for very long. Speed of connection is also painfully slow....where my other iPads and devices work fine. Definitely seems to be an issue of where the new wifi code does not play nice with older routers..though my Cisco is only 2 years old and is a high end modem....please fix this Apple!!!!!

I went through all of my router settings, and found out that for some reason, my old iPad 2 had activated port forwarding (I can't recall the port), perhaps over uPNP. I can't turn off uPNP due to my setup so I couldn't test that, but after disabling port forwarding to the iPad 2 IP, the wifi drop show up less often now. I am not sure if this is somewhat of a placebo effect, but last night my Air2 woke and slept several times with no issues. It did disconnect on waking up this morning, after about 9 hours off. Much improved from before.

A couple of nights ago, I also unplugged my Airplay capable receiver (Denon 2113) from the network and the connection appeared to hold better. What I have not done is turn off my iPad 2 and unplug my receiver to see if that will work. Does anyone who has this issue only has one apple device on their network? Perhaps the Air2 has some Airplay related wakeup command that these routers don't like that causes it to be blocked for a period of time.

Note: My particular problem is definitely a failure to reconnect to internet (but with wifi still connected) when the device turns on. Usually I will see up-to-date notifications, but then the internet will drop as soon as my iPad turns on.

I has the same issue.

Wifi is either slow or disconnects. This happens specifically when downloading apps or using Ii

apps that are heavy on the system, i.e. wallpaper apps.

Reset Router Netgear R7000

Exchanged Ipad at apple Store

Updated router firmware.

No significant change, I have not tried other wifi connections, all other Apple devices work fine (iPhone 5S and Macbook Pro with Yosemite.

It would be nice to see a reply from Apple on a fourn they moderate and run.

Nice to know I'm not alone, so thanks to everyone for commenting.

Using iPad Air 2, just got it BTW, and nothing but issues. It's driving me mad. Slow wifi connection and then when I finally get connection, I can't click on the first item in a search without first refreshing the page because it wont open. Then if I'm typing in a forum, for example, my screen freezes. I can't back space, delete...nothing. Then it just boots me out and have to re log in.

this is extremely irritating and I believe it is an ISO upgrade issue. I usually never upgrade until an upgrade has been out for awhile because of glitches but with a new device, I had no choice. I also get a weird crackle or pop noise from the speakers every so often. Almost sounds like an electrical shock noise. The speakers suck anyway on this iPad air 2

Also, I wasn't having issue with my iPad 4 until the recent upgrade. Thinking I'm going to take back the Air2 until they get their crap together.

I just did the test on 3 iPads using a Netgear (new) R7000

My wife's iPad2 (16GB)still on iOS7' (Ookla) Speedtest speeds 45Mbps/6Mbps whether Angry Birds is running or not.

iPad2 (32GB) iOS 8.1

Fresh boot, 45/6

Launch Angry Birds - sequential tests 4.7/4.7; 4.2/5.2; 2.8/4.5

Quit AB 45/6

Launch AB 3.7/5.6

Quit AB 45/6

etc.

iPad Air2 (128GB) iOS 8.1 essentially same as other 8.1 system

Gotta be down to 8.1

(I'd been having problems with my old Airport Extreme Time capsule from many years ago and decided to upgrade, but I didn't document the issues with it. Range and signal are indeed waaaay better)

Thanks for this update - I was hoping to see a post with confirmation that Apple has escalated the issue. I just purchased my iPad Air 2 64GB yesterday and also have to continually toggle the WiFi button to reconnect my WiFi. Apple must know at this point that they need to create a fix for this issue....I also have an iPhone 5 and a Windows laptop and have had no issues with WiFi. Until yesterday I also had an iPad 2 until yesterday (traded it in at Best Buy for the new Air 2) and also never had any WiFi connectivity issues.

APPLE, PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE WITH iOS 8.1!!!

I got rid of my Linksys EA4500 and got the ASUS RT-AC68U - AC1900. I was due an upgrade to get on the AC standard anyway so wasn't overly annoyed!

Since testing it over the weekend it seems that my Wi-Fi issues have been resolved. I haven’t had a single drop or had to toggle the Wi-Fi switch on/off to get it the connection live again. Speeds have been consistent and this is across all my devices including :

iPhone 6 Plus

iPad Air 2

iPhone 5S

Macbook Pro Retina – 2012 non AC version

I hope this lasts but so far so good although I appreciate this is a deep routed iOS 8 problem that only occurs with certain router brands / chipsets.

Either way apple need to resolve this in the next update for the vast majority of us and this certainly shouldn’t force us to upgrade our existing equipment!

Good luck to all and I’ll post back if things start to get sour again!!

At some point, we ALL have to get rid of older, now obsolete equipment. You did the right thing by upgrading. Apple cannot be expected to make it's products backwards compatible with every elderly router that was ever manufactured.

If you do much web searching at all, you will quickly find out that this is not a major problems for the new iPad Air 2. A few people are having trouble with old routers or routers they have tweaked in ways that don't play nice with Apple hardware. If this were something everyone was struggling with, believe me, it would be all over the media!

If you're having trouble, do what several other posters have done - get a new router, do a restore on your iPad and then you'll be back in business. If you're waiting for Apple to do this for you, it will be a LONG wait!

The iPad Air 2 is a wonderful product! I have had two iPads in the past - the original iPad and the iPad 3rd generation. Wow! What a difference! I love the speed, the display, the thinness of the design, and the weight. I occasionally read a book on my iPad - if it's a huge book that makes my poor old arthritic hands hurt to hold it. This summer while doing this, I told my daughter I might want a Kindle to read books on as my iPad was awfully heavy and a bit bulky. No more! I'm now reading an 800 page book and it's so light and easy to use.

This is a great product! Fix your wifi in your home and enjoy your new iPad!

Hi Thatchcote. Like others on this thread I am experiencing the WiFi issues and have to repeatedly toggle the WiFi switch. I purchased my current Linksys N router about 1 year ago so I don't consider it an "elderly router". The problem CLEARLY is a iOS 8.1 bug that causes a WiFi disconnect when the iPad is in sleep mode. I expect Apple to release a fix (maybe iOS 8.11 or iOS 8.2?).

Nov 3, 2014 8:36 AM in response to Thatchcote

I use Mac book pro, IP 5s, IP5, IPad 2, IPad air 1

I like apple products a lot. But not everything.

IPad Air 2 is not proper for buying in this time ( only my opinion)

because I want IPad for connect wifi for INTERNET everywhere I go, not only my home.

IF newest product can't use Internet in the most situation I think it not proper for call better.
