iPad Air 2 WiFi Issues

I'm having WiFi connectivity issues on my new iPad Air 2 (WiFi only). I'm having to turn WiFi off and on to reset my connection. Restarting and restoring hasn't fixed the issue.

What exactly is the point of your continued involvement in this thread? If I summed up the posts I've seen so far its that you believe our problem is that we haven't spent more money to buy more crap from Apple. You are entitled to your opinion of course, but the idea that if its Apple it just works is such a crock I'd be tempted to smack the next person who uttered such nonsense within reach. Happy to share countless stories of dead, broken and otherwise unfixable iPhones as just one set of illustrations.

Yet here I am, still owning Apple devices and just wanting my brand new iPad Air 2 to work properly on the exact same network that is fine for every other device I own, at least half of which are Apple.

I did open my case as you suggested, and got escalated to second level support and supposedly have a ticket open with the engineering team. So far though all that has provided is an opportunity for me to answer the same questions about my home network configuration over and over again. At least this and a related thread have given me a temporary workaround (thanks escrge1843). And on the hopes that Apple will actually look at this thread I do think it's useful for all of us to share information about our setups since they are reasonable diverse.

I only hope you are right that Apple will eventually get around to acknowledging and fixinc the problem. Though like having to buy more Apple gear, swapping my current iPad for another that will only have the same issues isn't an acceptable resolution.

Ever since I realized that playing Angry Birds followed by Wifi activity causes my Wifi speeds to drop I've had ZERO issues for two days --- All I have to make sure is that Angry Birds is NOT running in the background then Wifi is solid.... The same goes for my Iphone6

router make/model = Netgear WNDR3700

Apple needs to determine where the memory leak is between a memory intensive app like Angry Birds and Wifi activity ....

802.1.ac was ratified in December 2013 its no longer a draft technology http://blogs.aerohive.com/blog/the-wi-fi-security-blog/80211ac-is-ratified Using my R6300v2 802.11.ac router I am having no issues remaining connected to my router, I open my iPad and it connects and the wifi works fine. Why some do and some don't I do not know. The R7000 and & R7500 both using different tech again, the R7500 being the most buggy of the three routers which does drop connections and the R7000 is a AC1900 router, and these have had a few more issues than the vanilla AC 1750 ones.

I Can assure everyone that the wifi issues have nothing to do with your routers and the fault clearly lies with iOS 8.x

i know this because my original iPad Air which was running iOS 7.1.2 runs perfectly fine. I upgrade to ISO 8.0 and the wifi issues started. Everything on the device was having trouble finding the wifi but I first noticed it with my Sonos app dropping connection. Now I was lucky enough to downgrade back to iOS 7.1.2 before Apple stopped signing it and all was good again. Wifi is Rock solid.

Now I've just bought an iPad Air 2 64GB which is running iOS 8.1 and it's got the same problem with wifi dropping out or the internet running very slow. Yet if I pick up the iPad Air 1, everything is fine. No wifi dropping out or slow internet.

The problem clearly lies with iOS 8.x and Apple need to address this and not keep people in the dark. At least acknowledge that you are looking into the issue.

I get very annoyed with companies that bury their heads in the sand and not keep their paying customers in the loop. Apple if you are reading this, kindly acknowledge your doing something about it otherwise I'll be returning this iPad Air 2 this weekend for a full refund.

Good post and I believe your assumptions are correct, because your router and Air 1 device with iOS 7.x works ok but when you upgraded to iOS 8.x the problem started. Then you downgraded back to iOS 7.x and all is good again, I see that as a bingo there's the problem, its with the iOS 8.x program.

But before you return your Air 2 for a full refund, give Apple Support a call and put in a repair ticket, and tell the Apple technician what you just posted for us above so that Apple will know the problem is in iOS 8.x and not the router. Maybe Apple will have a new iOS 8.x update soon to fix this issue.

That is exactly what I did. My iPad Air is not suffering the same wi-fi problems that my new Air 2(Wi-fi only) did( I have a AirPort Extreme). And with the sound vibration on the Air 2, that pushed me over the edge. I requested a RMA from Apple and I'm taking it to FedEx today. I'll just stick with my Air 1.

Now if that is my big problem in life - the fact that I have to stay with the original Air and don't have the Air 2 - I'm in great shape. Let's keep things in perspective here.

But I am disappointed. I upgrade every year and what I had been hoping for and what I got just didn't intersect.

I find something odd because yesterday my wife went to Telus cell phone store at the mall where they also sell new iPads and she asked the Salesperson there if he knows of any issues with Wifi problems on the new Air 2 and he said that he's not heard of anyone having wifi issues. That's what she told me last nite, so I went to a web site forum called Macrumors.com and searched the forum to see if anyone is mentioning wifi issues on the new Air 2 and I couldn't find any posts mentioning it.

Problem seems to be solved for me:

I finally decided to get a new router even though there was a mixed message on whether or not that would help. Replaced the Linksys EA4500 with a NETGEAR AC3200 Nighthawk X6 Tri-Band WiFi Router (R8000). I've been connected for 24 hours to 5ghz and have not lost the connection.

Updated Modified Post:

Finally, in frustration contacted Apple Care of a refund. There answer was go to the Apple store. The Apple Store gave me a new iPad. They claim they've heard no complains about this problem. With the new iPad continued to lose connections at 5ghz. However, the 2.4ghz never lost a connection.

Orginal Modified Post:

iPad Air 2 problem: 2.4ghz very slow dropped connections. 5ghz very fast actually faster than my hardwire but not connection every lasted longer than 30 minutes. Meanwhile, my iPad3 and iPhone 4s worked fine on my Linksys EA4500. I tried all the suggestions and none of them worked:

Reset network settings

Disabled Wi-Fi Networking Services

Set Custom DNS

Used static ip

removed cover

Turned off auto-lock

set so closing cover didn't lock

Anytime I wanted the internet I'd fire up Speedtest app. If it couldn't find a server within a couple of seconds I'd go to setting and turn wifi off and on. Then it work for a short period of time.

Here's something that those who have Air 2 WiFi issues dropping can try as a test.

On your Air 2, if you have a setting called 'Network' and it is set to ON, turn it to OFF on the Air 2.

On your existing Router, if your router SSID is set to use AUTO bands, that is it will use both the 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands automatically, turn the AUTO setting OFF and just have the router to use the SSID 2.4GHz band.

See if this helps your WiFi issue.
