iPad Air 2 WiFi Issues
I'm having WiFi connectivity issues on my new iPad Air 2 (WiFi only). I'm having to turn WiFi off and on to reset my connection. Restarting and restoring hasn't fixed the issue.

So this blog ha been going for two years and still no fix.
come on Apple step up to this issue. It's a real pain.
My iPad air also has iOS 8.1. but I think my iPad air 2 seems working better with my home 5G wifi network now, what I did is changing the wifi setting to enable the " ask to join networks" option and did a hard reset on my home wifi router (power off, unplug all cables/connections, power on, plug all cables/connections, reset). Another thing I did to make wrb web page load faster is to turn on the "do not track" setting in Safari.
Guys, this seem to have worked for me. I set the iPad Air 2 to a static IP address within the range my router supports as described in this link & graphic:
http://osxdaily.com/2012/05/19/manual-dhcp-static-ip-address-ios/
I also told my router to reserve a static IP for my iPad under DHCP Reservations AND I set the 5GHz Network Mode to MIXED and Channel Width to 20MHZz. It seems to be working and staying connected after the iPad falls asleep. I am using a Linksys EA4500 router.
Try for yourselves and report back. Try even if you don't have an iPad. Use for all devices using iOS 8.1. Interested to see if this works for all.
Sorry guys, spoke to soon. Even though I set the iPad Air 2 to a static IP...........it did not fix the issue we all have.
I Can confirm that the Asus RT-AC68U AC1900 router is working great for me, no disconnects so far. I bought it to replace my Linksys EA4500 Last Friday and have had no disconnects all week. Somewhat of a temporary solution, as the issue will pop up again once I go somewhere with a different router - I see several people have had that problem. Going to put in a call to apple support to report the issue once I have the time - hopefully they won't make me sit through the usual troubleshooting steps of resetting this and that.
fixing status IP on the clien side (I.e in iPad, phone, computer, etc) is not recommended since it can cause problems of the router has already assigned that address to another device. IP address assignment is handled on the router side, so if you want to test static IP assignment, you need to go set it at the router side. Each router has a different method of doing so, however.
For those who use Netgear R7000, I found a solution and it works perfectly. Simply install tomato firmware (latest version v123). All the issues are gone.
I am now on an AT&T (Pace American) wifi unit as part of a UVerse installation, using my new iPadAir2.
I can simultaneously load Botanicula, Infinity Blade, DeadSpace and Speedtest - they have no effect on my speed (13-16MBPS). As soon as I load (any) Angry Birds, the speed slows to a crawl of <0.5Mbps, and returns when I wuit AB. Even with nothing else loaded, if I load AB , it slows back down. Something about AB? If its not loaded, I have zero problems, now on two routers.....
Weird, huh?
Is "tomato firmware 123" something from Netgear ? Ffor my R7000 I have updated with what NetGear said was the latest available...
I am having the same problem with my iPad Air 2 dropping WiFi. I am using a new Linksys EA4500. My current iPad 2 and iPhone 5 wrok just fine with the EA4500. Only the iPad Air 2 which I purchased on 11/3 is having the problem. I am thinking that I may have to return the iPad Air 2 before my 14 day return window ends.
Im having the same issue also, you may wish to wait as the press (and my local store) is reporting an update 8.1.1 is coming. Most of the fixes on this and other threads fail to cure the problems so I would advise you not to waste any time.
I set static IP on both the router (DHCP Reservations) and in the iPad Air 2. You're saying it shouldn't be on both?
tomato is a well-known third-party firmware. I was using the latest firmware from Netgear and had tons of issues. Changing to tomato resolves all my problems.
Any time frame for 8.1.1
So I responded a while (pages) ago to having a this issue. Basically I bought an iPad Air 2 128gb cellular and have a Linksys a3500. I would lose connection when I slept the iPad and could only get the internet to work when I toggled the wifi off/on using the control center. All other devices I had (iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPad Mini, etc) didn't have an issue with my router. So I returned the iPad Air 2 and waited...
I finally got another iPad Air 2 hoping I wouldn't have the same issue but...well I had that same issue. I went to a local laundromat and they have free wifi. I didn't have any issues there like I had at home. So it seems like certain routers just don't play well with the iPad Air 2.
I ended getting an Apple Time Capsule. Not for this issue specifically, but because I eventually wanted to use the wireless backup feature with the Macs in my home. Well after setting up the Apple Time Capsule I don't have the wifi/sleep issue with my iPad Air 2.
I know this doesn't help anyone but I just wanted to share my experience. I hope the next update fixes the issue for everyone else.
I am having the same. problem with my iPad Air 2.
This is not a Router Problem.
It is not likely to be a hardware problem.
(The iPad Air 2 and iPhonr 6 and 6 plus do use a new WiFi Chipset so drivers are different than earlier hardware running iOS.)
Not everyone with an Air 2 or iPhone 6 is having this problem.
In my case and every one that I have seen in this thread powering the iOS device off then on clears the problem until it starts again.
What is missing from most posts in this thread are the APPs that are running when the problem occurs.
My suspiscion is that there is some kind of unwanted interaction between an APP an the iOS code that is unique to the iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6.
A finger has been pointed at Angry Birds Rio. I suspect that Angry Birds Seasons may be causing this problem on my Air 2.
I have a ticket open with Apple and will be doing further tests.
It seems the new software places nice with newer AC routers. I don't own one but from the responses in this thread, upgrading the router resolved the issues for them. I don't plan on upgrading my router and would rather wait for Apple to fix this via software update.
As for Apps, i don't have Angry Birds. My issue is the same as your and it's with all apps that require the Internet. I do see an improvement when I change my 5GHz channel to 802.11a mode, which is a downgrade, but maintains my connection for the most part. I'm using a Linksys EA4500.
I set static IP on both the router (DHCP Reservations) and in the iPad Air 2. You're saying it shouldn't be on both?
Correct. Set IP on router only. I have an iPad2 and Asus RT-AC68U router. I entered into the router the iPad2's MAC address with the assigned IP address of 192.168.1.58 on router only and not on the iPad. If you assign a IP address on your iPad then when out using wifi at Starbucks for example then Starbucks router might not connect your iPad.
