Mac mini 2014 won't wake monitor via HDMI

Hello! I just purchased a brand new Mac mini (Late 2014), 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 with Intel Iris 1536 MB, running Yosemite 10.10. It's connected to an Acer K242HL monitor via HDMI.

The monitor connection works correctly (I'm typing this on it now), until I attempt to wake the monitor from sleep. The Mac itself clearly wakes when I click the mouse (the white light stops blinking and stays solid), but the monitor does not respond. I have to power off/on the monitor to get it to wake up.

I have previously used the monitor with a MacBook Pro (via HDMI) in clamshell mode and had no problems with it waking up straight away, so I'm assuming the problem lies with the Mac mini.

Can anyone offer any advice about this? It's very annoying not being able to quickly wake up the display when I need to use the Mac.

Thanks!

Same issue - I have 2 Samsung S32D850T and did several tests over a month for the Apple senior advisor which were all reviewed by the engineering department. In the end I was told there's no resolution and to keep an eye out for OSX software updates to possibly resolve the issue. VERY disappointed by the outcome as I can't even return the Mac. I'm using the mini display port (thunderbolt port) to display port (regular size)Case: 714736418

Apple released a fix for Yosemite yesterday. 10.10.2 fixes a host of issues, including (allegedly) the Wifi problems.

Zero impact on the display wake up issues. As a matter of fact, I can't be totally sure, but I now believe that only the KB will wake up the primary display, the mouse does not seem to do that. And nothing wakes up a secondary display except turning it off and then back on.

Yes, all of my testing so far is showing:

Monitors asleep for a short period of time

Moving mouse does not wake up monitors

Clicking mouse wakes up the primary monitor (on HDMI, does not wake up the displayport monitor)

Monitors asleep for a longer period of time

Moving mouse does not wake up monitors

Clicking mouse does not wake up monitors

That means that in 10.10.2 they did something to the sleep/monitor interaction and that, unfortunately, they made it worse.

Mac Mini November 2014. Yosemite upgraded to 10.10.2.

Viewsonic VP2770-LED connected to HDMI. Viewsonic input set to HDMI.

Wireless Keyboard and trackpad. Both Apple.

The Yosemite 10.10.2 upgrade solved it for my system

Mac wakes up from deep or short sleep - LED solid - after keyboard press or trackpad click

Viewsonic stays in power saving mode (LED turns from amber to blue)

Just to clarify

Mac Mini November 2014. Yosemite upgraded to 10.10.2.

Viewsonic VP2770-LED connected HDMI(mac) to HDMI(Monitor). Connected with an Amazon Basics HDMI cable

Viewsonic input set to HDMI.

Wireless Keyboard and trackpad. Both Apple.

The Yosemite 10.10.2 upgrade solved it for my single monitor system.

Mac wakes up from deep (LED off) or short(LED pulsing) sleeps to LED solid - after keyboard press or trackpad click

Viewsonic comes out of power saving mode (LED turns from amber to blue)

So it now behaves in the same way as my 2012 Mini - also on 10.2.2. Although this one had always behaved as expected.

I can also confirm that after updating to 10.10.2, my Mac Mini 2014 wakes the monitor using either the track pad or keyboard after several hours of sleep

Setup:

  1. LG 32" LED Display (32LB5600)
  2. Mac mini 2014 - HDMI to HDMI#1
  3. Mac book Pro 2013 - HDMI to HDMI #2

The MBP never had an issue of waking the monitor on 10.10.1. The Mac Mini is now working as expected using an HDMI to HDMI directional cable, in the same way my Mac Mini 2010 did.

Thanks Apple.

Can anyone verify that mini displayport is waking their monitor up in any combination?

I have no issue with the HDMI to DVI, that has always worked and continues to work. If I can find a combination that allows both monitors to wake up I would be eternally happy. You know, the way that EVERY OTHER STINKING COMPUTER WORKS SINCE 2001.

Getting frustrated with the "it just works" crowd at Apple....

Just turned on my re-bought Mini and updated right away to 10.10.2...

So far, SUCCESS! And after only a month! 😠

Oh well... anyway, Mini HDMI to Monitor HDMI

Mouse click - Monitor wakes up

Keyboard key - Monitor wakes up

Mind you, this is only after a short period of sleep... hopefully all goes well tomorrow, and after that, and after that, and after that!
