If you are having an issue with your iMac ejecting DVDs when you insert them, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
Your Mac ejects CDs or DVDs when you insert them
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Oct 31, 2014 1:03 PM in response to Brett Lby bobbylon,That is not the issue. Since my upgrade to Yosemite:
The DVD player refuses to play a DVD when inserted. It ejects them fine. It is not reading them.
"Support Disc Not Available" and ejects the disk. These are store-bought, commercial movies. Not DVD R's
Toast will not burn DVD's either. I tried that.
CDs play and the CD burner works fine.

Nov 1, 2014 11:03 AM in response to bobbylonby bobbylon,Since there was no help forthcoming here, I did a google search and it was suggested that the lens was dirty. So I went out and bought a DVD lens cleaner and compressed air tube. Might as well have taken a match to a $20 bill for all the good it did me.
It just will not read the DVD but plays/burns CDs fine. I will ask again: is this an issue with my upgrade to Yosemite b/c I was playing DVDs perfectly fine before the upgrade.
Seems like a lot of people have this problem but there is no compelling solution.

Nov 1, 2014 11:47 AM in response to bobbylonby tbirdvet,I use the Apple Super Drive (external DVD drive) and no issues with Yosemite with my Mini.

Nov 1, 2014 11:55 AM in response to bobbylonby Eric Root,Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Nov 5, 2014 5:52 AM in response to Eric Rootby bobbylon,That is not what I expected to have to do after upgrading to Yosemite. Very discouraging. What is a good external DVD drive/burner. I'm tired of spinning my wheels looking for a solution that doesn't exist.

Nov 5, 2014 12:01 PM in response to bobbylonby greenzeta,I'm experiencing the same problem on a 2010 Mac Mini. You insert the disk, it attempts to read for about 5-10 seconds and then ejects the discs. Happens on "pressed" DVDs and DVDRs. CD's work. Reformatted and reinstalled Snow Leopard and DVDs load as expected. Reformatted again and reinstalled Yosemite and DVDs fail to load. This is definitely an issue with Yosemite on some DVD drives.

Nov 5, 2014 9:26 PM in response to greenzetaby bobbylon,I definitely think it's a Yosemite issue. I was using that drive to rip Halloween clips using handbrake, went away for a week came back and upgraded Yosemite and now the DVD drive is not working. I highly doubt my drive puked in the span of one week.

Dec 1, 2014 10:03 PM in response to bobbylonby jbanger,My iMac (27" Mid 2011) does not read DVD's either since Yosemite.
Same as above, attempts to read, 10-15 seconds later DVD spits out (both commercial and a DVD of my daughters school photos)
CD's read and play fine.
What gives Apple?

Dec 4, 2014 7:57 AM in response to jbangerby bobbylon,Since the latest software update in Yosemite, now it just shows a question mark on the dock where the DVD icon was before. So how would I at least try and re-install the DVD player.
Upgrading to Yosemite has been the biggest mistake I have made since buying my Imac 3 years ago. The Apple support has been woefully lacking on this problem as well.
It's not a failed Superdrive!

Dec 4, 2014 8:27 AM in response to jbangerby greenzeta,My solution is to bootcamp into Windows 7. OSX hasn't been stable sine Snow Leopard and it just keeps getting worse with each new version. I'm done with Apple and their prices, my next computer is going to be the cheapest possible dell.

Dec 26, 2014 1:45 PM in response to bobbylonby michael gardner,Similar problem with 2010 powerbook. DVD that played an hour ago won't play after upgrade to Yosemite. Some other DVDs will play.

Dec 27, 2014 10:44 AM in response to michael gardnerby bobbylon,So where are the professional Apple Support techs on this issue? Obviously there as a malfunction in Yosemite that is causing some of us to no longer be able to use our DVD players. The silence from the pros is embarrassing. This is the kind of **** poor attention to detail that many of us left Microsoft for and now it has infected Apple.
I rue the day I ever upgraded to this needless operating system. Mavericks worked perfectly. Have had nothing but aggravation over Yosemite.
I would like to see someone from Apple take ownership of this problem and admit that there is a problem with DVD drives failing in Yosemite. Since the various updates since I posed this problem in Oct. now the DVD icon on the bottom doesn't even show. It has been replaced by a question mark.
Where is the help? Genius bar. Useless. Online help. Useless.
This is a problem. Someone fess up that there is no solution. Embarrassing online help.
