VERY POOR WIFI ON ALL APPLE PRODUCTS

I am very disappointed in the quality of the wireless NIC of all Apple devices at home, because of my business I have a enterprise class network based on cisco at home, including Aironet for WiFi (I mean, i can not get better hardware than enterprise class hardware), and all wireless devices including printers, Chromecast, android devices, computers with linux, with windows work perfect, but all Apple devices has a poor behavior with WIFI (two iPhone 5s, one apple tv 1080, and one ipod touch 4). Apple devices disconnects, have high ping times (sometimes over 2000ms) and no solution from Apple, it's frustrating that products like apple's that cost much have this embarassing quality in this point that is so important.

Please dont say, "be near to access point" or, "change your router", I am IT/Infrastructure architect and my wife electronic engineer (Both Cisco Pros), so the basic and advanced tests have been made.

If you search on google "iphone wifi problems" or "appletv wifi problems" you find many entries, same with ipad. Evidently something is wrong with your products, and "problems" is not that you sell in your corporate image.

Apple, please take the awareness and responsibility of this and solve the problem quickly, you could lose customers on a massive scale.

People have reported ios 8.1 solves the long ping times. Folks have reported not all wifi problems were solved with 8.1.

Two articles on 8.x wifi problems. There are a number of work-arounds included.

-- use 2.4 band

-- use only one antenna if you have two.

iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

Why does iOS 8.0.2 not resolve the issue of WiFi connectivity with iOS 8 and the new iPhone 6?

iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

The above link resolves most people's issues with WiFi.

I seriously doubt that the link you referenced will resolve anything in regard to the iOS8.x Wi-Fi issue. Most of the recommenations are Wi-Fi Config 101 type recommendations and are also the default config for most routers. I don't think there would be such an astronomical number of complaints, if the problem was basically rename your router, config it for WPA2 and don't change anything else. Are you even using a device on iOS8.x? Are you even taking into consideration that there were no complaints with iOS7.x?

In a nutshell, THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH iOS8.x WI-FI CONNECTIVITY. IT IS AT BEST REALLY SLOW (SLOWER THAN LTE!!!!) AND AT WORST YOU CAN'T EVEN CONNECT TO A WI-FI NETWORK.

Sorry for yelling, but there have already been 2 updates to iOS8, and neither of them have addressed this EXTREMELY major problem. The releases notes for iOS 8.1 kinda/sorta said it did, but it didn't. If it were just the new iPhone 6's affected, I would say Apple needs to recall them, but since it it is affecting basically every device that is eligible for the iOS8.x update, it is obviously an issue with iOS8.x and needs to be fixed ASAP.

All,

I tried the escrge 1843 method (iPad Air 2 WiFi Connectivity Issues: RESOLVED) last night and it definitely made things a lot more stable but speed was affected. My usual Speedtest app gives me 50 Mbs Down but after setting the networks to 5ghz - A only and 2.4ghz to B/G the maximum I was able to achieve was 25 Down.

Even after sleep and wake for several hours two out of three devices (IPad Air 2 and 5S) remained connected but unfortunately my iPhone 6 Plus which was behaving better on the previous 5ghz setting lost connection this morning and I had to toggle Wi-Fi on/ off.

So in summary this method is the best temporary fix to date (especially for Linksys/Cisco routers) albeit not perfect for all IOS devices in the same household.

I'm definitely going to buy the new ASUS AC68 router which I think will solve the problem as I'm hearing good reports from numerous sources!

I got rid of my Linksys EA4500 and got the ASUS RT-AC68U - AC1900. I was due an upgrade to get on the AC standard anyway so wasn't overly annoyed!

Since testing it over the weekend it seems that my Wi-Fi issues have been resolved. I haven’t had a single drop or had to toggle the Wi-Fi switch on/off to get it the connection live again. Speeds have been consistent and this is across all my devices including :

iPhone 6 Plus

iPad Air 2

iPhone 5S

Macbook Pro Retina – 2012 non AC version

I hope this lasts but so far so good although I appreciate this is a deep routed iOS 8 problem that only occurs with certain router brands / chipsets.

Either way apple need to resolve this in the next update for the vast majority of us and this certainly shouldn’t force us to upgrade our existing equipment!

Good luck to all and I’ll post back if things start to get sour again!!

So, you changed out your wi-fi router, and your wi-fi improved. Sounds like your wi-fi router was the device with the problem. Was there a firmware update available for your old router?
