duplicate photos import into iPhoto

Hi! iPad Air 2, and iPhone 6 Plus, all on 8.1. Both devices are turned on to iCloud photo library beta, and upload to my photo stream and iCloud photo sharing. I DO NOT have Keep Normal Photo turned on. Yet when I plug in either device I wind up with duplicates of the photos in iPhoto. When prompted to not import photos that have already been added (via photo stream I presume), I say no and then delete them all from my device. And I still wind up with two of each. Any possible ideas?

I was able to solve it by doing the following:

iPhone: restart, hard reset (home + lock button)

This did not yet solve my problem

iPhone

- Settings > iCloud > Photos: turn off iCloud Photo Library, My Photo Stream, Upload Burst Photos

- Settings > Photos & Camera: same as above. Should already be off but double check.

This did not yet solve my problem

iPhoto:

- iPhoto > Preferences > iCloud: uncheck My Photo Stream

This solved my problem!!

I put the rest of the steps that I took in case it had something to do with the otheres also (still) being turned off. This is a one time fix, and it seems like others have temporarily solved it, only to have it reappear. So, there you have it!

My Hardware:

2009 Mac Pro

- OSX 10.10.2

- iPhoto 9.6

- Setting: My Photo Stream is OFF in settings

iPhone 6

- iOS 8.1.3

- Setting: My Photo Stream is OFF in settings

- Setting: Keep Normal Photo is also OFF

I will probably reenable all of My Photo Stream on both my MBP and iPhone 6 after I import.

Here's to hoping this gets resolved in iOS 8.2!

Thanks, ellyfromNY! I've been wondering for some time why my iPhone 5S was generating duplicate photos on import into iPhoto, and you gave me the solution and saved me the time of going through new imports and deleting duplicates. Much appreciated from Madrid!

If your iPhoto (9.6 or earlier) shows dublicated images on the connected device, you can simply fix it as 1.2.3:
1. On the right, under devices, right-click on your device (iPhone or iPad) and click Unmount2. Unplug your iPhone/iPad from the charging cable and Replug it back in.
3. Enjoy!😁

May I know how I could access this window on the new operating system; I no longer have iPhotos. It seems that on Photos, there is no option to access advanced settings.
