mail organize by conversation mixup

I found there have mixup of over hundred by the organise by conversation function. Could I really organise those and fix the one that not belong to the conversation?

Or where I could setup for the rules that belongs on the same conversation or not?

Dear all,

This looks to me like a corruption of the Mail indexes, which I've come across a couple of times previously. I've found a solution that worked for me.

With Mail closed, in the Home | Library, go to Mail | V2 | MailData. Delete the three files with names starting with "Envelope":

  • "Envelope Index"
  • "Envelope Index-wal" and
  • "Envelope Index-shm"

(Drag them to the desktop if you want to be cautious!) Open Mail again and it goes through an importing and indexing process, forcing a rebuild of the index from scratch, which resolved the problems that I experienced, which included faulty "read" count, missing folders, invisible messages, etc.

Good luck

Yes, my current system is Yosemite, and the folders were in the same place on my Mavericks OS.

It's possible your Home | Library is not visible. Go to Finder and drop down the 'Go' menu. When you hold down the 'Alt' key the 'Library' folder will appear in the middle of the menu. That folder is where you'll find the 'Mail | V2 | MailData' folder that contains the 'Envelope' files.

Plagued by the same issue, I tried this STCav and what do you know… it added even more unrelated content into an already overcrowded unrelated conversation.

Apple has broken a good feature once again. As this has got worse, or at least more apparent as it builds a more and more broken relationship database, I now at least know why I haven't reacted to some client emails over the last few months.

I now have 39 messages in one confused conversation that should be 5 separate ones.

Fix it Apple.
