iTunes 12 for iMac won't recognize any devices

Just upgraded to iTunes 12. Now none of my device (iPhone 6, iPhone 5, iPad, iPod) are recognized. All. Connections are good, never had an issue before. Tried uninstallIngrid but iMac won't let me delete iTunes to reinstall. All settings are good and have tried powering off and on.

Hello Anlumsdaine,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.l

In iTunes 12, the location to where you would see your iOS devices connected has changed. Take a look at the picture below on where you can locate your devices. If you still do not see your devices when connected, follow the article linked to at the bottom of this message.

I have this same problem. Everything was fine, but abruptly iTunes stopped recognizing all of my devices. Tried restarting, changing cables, connecting directly vs through a hub and even wireless syncing. Nothing shows up and the computer is not seen by the devices in the wireless sync preferences.

No updates or changes occurred between working and not working.

similar issue, when using my usb the devices are recognized, but the point of wireless sync was to not have to tether my devices to my Mac and still be able to sync them or drop music or movies on them. now neither show up in iTunes at all. That's a big problem if we're now having to connect via usb to sync or add music now. once they're connected the iPad/iPhones do show up in the new location in iTunes but once disconnected physically from my Mac, they're no longer displayed there for dragging and dropping files.

I can't sync either. iTunes just updated to 12, tried to connect my new iPhone 6, and nothing. I understand the version changed, to see the little icon, but nope!! It doesn't connect. I hope some Apple Support person addresses this issue and soon. Great question about having to connect via a usb cable to be able to wifi connect. There needs to be a few ways to sync.

I have the same/similar problem: upgrade MacBook Pro to Yosemite and iTunes 12.0.1 and now my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.0.2) is not recognized.

I've seen lots of people having the same issue and tried all the suggested fixes (restarting phone and/or mac, fixing permissions) and it still doesn't work

Feel like a very annoying bug in iTunes 12.0.1 to me so when are Apple going to fix it?

I was finally able to sync. I rebooted, both my new I phone 6 and my MacBook Pro. Then hooked them up, and waited, and it finally popped up. I had gone to a Android phone for a few years, waiting on a larger iPhone screen. I now have to relearn how to Sync etc. But since I use only Mac computers, this is the right side of the field for me. Google did smoothly update my calendar. I have to still figure this out. Does anyone have any tips on how to get my iCal to now sync automatically with my iPhone 6? It doesn't seem to work yet.

Glad it worked for you!

It can't be that all those people are having faulty cables. Something is wrong with iTunes 12. And why would a cable charge and be able to transfer photos from the iPhone but not recognised in iTunes? It was perfectly fine before iTunes 12...

Apple please fix this!

It's already maddening to have to use that crappy software that nobody understands to transfer files but now it has a major bug.

Yes, loving apple products in general except iTunes.

Anyone who's gone through the hoops of migrating to a new phone/computer or migrating albums knows what I'm talking about.

I agree, by all the comments, some people are having some serious issues and they may not be associated to the cable.

As i said mine was fixed by trying different cables. The two that didn't work will both charge the phone and iPad but the moment i connect them to the iMac they don't respond at all to iTunes. The two i use now have no problem. I can't explain only hope that this helps somebody else who may have the same issue as something to try. Good Luck.
