iPad Air 2 touch sensitivity problems

I purchased and iPad Air 2 two days ago. I noticed the screen had sensitivity problems around the outer edges which were apparent when trying to use the keyboard. Keys such as "Q," the microphone button and then pressing "done" as well as the character keyboard button and switching between various keyboards, etc. where not responding well to touch. I exchanged it for another one the next day, brought it home and it exhibited the same problems. Brought the second one back the store and the two sales associates noted the same thing only they had not come across this before. They brought out another one which I tried at the store and it had the same unresponsive key problems. Each iPad exhibited different degrees of this problem. Bouncing between keys "q" "a" "z" in rapid succession or trying to select the different character keyboards at the very bottom of the screen made the problem. Sometimes trying to compose an email or deleting one using the icons at the top of the screen exited the same problems. That was three iPad Air 2's. Several demo units exhibited the same problem while several others did not. Is this a defective manufacturing issue or a potential design flaw associated with the new laminated layers of screen?

I ended up ordered another iPad Air 2 online and the one I received has no problems with touch sensitivity at all. While it's possible it could be software, personally, I am not convinced. If your iPad hesitates at all, I recommend you return it for one that does not. Let Apple sort it all out. Waiting for a software fix is not a solution for me - not at that price point and it may not be a solution at all. New screen, new manufacturing process = more potential problems with assembly and components. That speaker crackling I had before led me to believe there was some kind of electrical interference/issue which affected the touch sensitivity and I did not use any third party chargers.

Touch sensitivity Issues resolved with both iPad Air 2!

I worked with Apple support and they had me make sure all apps were closed and browser sessions closed then had me do a "Reset All: Settings\General\Reset All Settings". Did this on both devices and I've not had any issues since then. The only thing I can think of that caused this issue is I did a cloud backup and restore from my old iPads when I setup the Air 2 and it must of had issues with some of the settings. Doing the reset I did have to re enter things like passcode and touch settings, but I didn't lose any data or apps.

I don't know if this will resolve issues for others, but it worked for mine. Good luck!

I'm experiencing the same problem, but only seems to happen when I have a weak wifi link.

I have a 64gb wifi only model, and when I disconnect the wifi, the problem goes away.

I only really notice the problem when I'm using hand writing note taking software App, Notes Plus, so might be the App.

I do notice the occasional issue with other apps but nothing like as bad as some on this post.

I'm seeing similar issues, more with day to day use and not the keyboar.

I'Ve noticed the following issues:

- Playing Simpson's Tapped Out; have to tap repeatedly and eventualy will work. This can be anywhere on the screen

- NFL Fantasy app, trying to add players, click on + Add symbol repeatedly and nothing happens.

I also just found another issue. When holding down the delete key, it used to delete letters one at a time and then delete complete words. Now it deletes one letter at a really quick and then slows down, instead of deleting words at a time, it deletes on letter at a time in s l o w m o......really annoying when you are a bad typist.

I've not experienced any sound issues, but then haven't played any music yet.

I have seen similar issues with touch sensitivity on my iPhone 6, so I'm skeptical if this is HW issue or a SW issue. Hoping its software related

I am on my second iPad Air 2 with the same sensitivity issues. The problem is more frequent on the "Shift" and Number "1" keys for me, but I am experiencing the same problems every key, any screen location or loading an app on a frequent, but random basis. The outer edges of the screen seem to be far worse than anywhere else on the screen. My first Air 2 purchased 30 days ago was traded in today for a new one. I restored the second Air from the Cloud as suggested from the Genius. I am using all Apple charging equipment and cables. My unit is now at full charge and was powered since getting home and performing the Restore from the Cloud.

The new one is just like the first one. I am going to try your recommended reset and if I see any lag, this second Air 2 is going back to the store for a cash refund. I'll edit this post after the reset.

When I ordered my last one online, I made sure that I did not restore any backups. I set it up as a new one and just spent to the time re-dowloading apps and reorganizing them. I did not want to take any chances. If your iPad (or next iPad) works good out of the box, I would suggest doing the same. Maybe this was being over-cautious but everything is in full working order right now and it gave me piece of mind. Good luck.

I had the same issues as most on here. I took my new iPad Air 2 128GB back to Apple three times. No questions were asked, they simply got me a new one. I do have to say on the first one the "Genius" tech noticed it was slightly bent. Not the next two Though. I attempted completely restoring even on my Mac with iTunes and no success. Finally on the one I have now that works perfectly, it was resolved during an online Apple Support chat. The rep asked me to try the following and it resolved my issue completely. Maybe it can help someone else too.

Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings

Not sure, but something in settings from my older iPad backup was the culprit. LOVE the new iPad Air 2 now!!

I was a day away from returning my iPad Air 2 to Apple for either a refund or replacement because of the screen sensitivity issues described here. Gladly I followed my wife's suggestion to check online to see if there as a software fix despite my thinking it was a hardware issue. Using Ragilpin's solution of a device reset solved the issue. "Reset All: Settings\General\Reset All Settings"

I had backed up an older iPad and restored it to this newer iPad 2 Air. That seems to be the primary cause of touch sensitivity issues.

Doing this reset doesn't disturb any documents or in-game progress but you will have to re-do all your security settings like fingerprint ID, software passwords and your desktop picture. Well worth it in my opinion.
