iPad Air 2 touch sensitivity problems

I purchased and iPad Air 2 two days ago. I noticed the screen had sensitivity problems around the outer edges which were apparent when trying to use the keyboard. Keys such as "Q," the microphone button and then pressing "done" as well as the character keyboard button and switching between various keyboards, etc. where not responding well to touch. I exchanged it for another one the next day, brought it home and it exhibited the same problems. Brought the second one back the store and the two sales associates noted the same thing only they had not come across this before. They brought out another one which I tried at the store and it had the same unresponsive key problems. Each iPad exhibited different degrees of this problem. Bouncing between keys "q" "a" "z" in rapid succession or trying to select the different character keyboards at the very bottom of the screen made the problem. Sometimes trying to compose an email or deleting one using the icons at the top of the screen exited the same problems. That was three iPad Air 2's. Several demo units exhibited the same problem while several others did not. Is this a defective manufacturing issue or a potential design flaw associated with the new laminated layers of screen?

I can report that I'm noticing the same thing. Seems that if screen doesn't get any input for ~10+ seconds, the next tap isn't registered. That isn't always the case as I found myself going through a settings reset, and going to reapply my settings, and finding I had to double tap within a second or 2 of the last input.

So it somehow varies. There was another report http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1809995 - that may be a 8.1 OS issue. Not sure if that is the case or if its more noticeable on the Air 2.

I can definitely second this. I'm currently setting up an exhibition with various iPads and all iPad Air 2 that are plugged in with a third party usb power plug show touch sensivity problems like very unsmooth scrolling, missing touch inputs and such. As soon as we switched the USB power plugs to original 10 W USB Power Adapters from Apple, the touch input improved drastically.

It seems like the screens of the past were are much more responsive than this new laminate process on the new iPad Air 2. I would gladly trade more thickness and the older style screen over this new one. I'm not so sure this is an iOS 8.1 problem. I think its a hardware issue. Too bad because I really liked how fast it was. I'll stick to my iPad 2 for now. Maybe upgrade to the original iPad Air in the near future.

Update. I found the culprit of the problem I was facing.

I've had an iPad 2 for years and recently traded it in for $$ towards an Air 2.

I work from home and have an after-market Brookstone USB charger. Had my lightning cable plugged into it and the problem was noticeable shortly after reaching 100% charge.

As soon as I disconnected, problem went away.

So yesterday, I swapped it for the power charger that came with my iPad air 2, and saw no problems.

I tested again this morning with the Brookstone, and same issue came back. Swapped back to the Apple charger and problem gone.

I used the Brookstone all the time with my iPad 2 with no issues. So there something different in the charging.

I have another aftermarket USB charger, and I don't see any problems. Its an iXCC 2-port 4.2 Amp (20-watt) charger.

At any rate. Good luck.

I also have been experiencing this problem big time with my new iPad Air 2. Screen sensitivity is poor in all apps, and keyboard misses keystrokes about once out of every five key strikes...which is a lot. My most robust example of poor sensitivity is hitting the compose email button in the mail app. On average I have to hit it five times before I can compose an email. All other iPad models I've tried with iOS8.1 seem fine in terms of sensitivity. The other strange thing is the keys on the virtual keyboard don't highlight when struck. It makes it hard tell if they've registered a strike. Is this a new feature? I'm going to return the new ipad unless I can find a solution.

Two of the three demo units at the Apple store worked great. One of them exhibited the same problems I had. Composing emails was a problem as well as trying to delete email. Oddly, another persons iPad I tried worked well but they ordered their's online through Apple. I beginning to believe that there is flawed lot of manufactured iPads. I refuse to try to buy another one at the Apple Store in RI right now. I may try to order one online and see what happens. If that exhibits problems, then I'm done with the iPad Air 2 period. I'll wait another year or so for the next version. I would take your's back if I were you.

P.S. One thing I noticed with all the problem iPads is that if you're using them microphone button on the keyboard, each model's "ding" noise had some crackling sound with it. I could replicate it if I waited for a minute or so. If I pressed the microphone button immediately afterward, it sounded normal. It's weird - not sure if it's related or not to the sensitivity issue.

I've got it too. It seems pretty random to me. It could be anywhere in the screen and it happens for taps and swipes.

I've pretty much decided to tough it out until iOS 8.1.1 or 8.2 and then if the problem still exists (which I suspect it will) I'll take it back. I'm dreading that though usually when I try to test it it behaves perfectly - then when I'm just using it normally it'll start playing up again.

Oh and FWIW, I've only been using the charger that came with it.

bought two air 2 last week and both are having touch issues. Open browser and try to click on search results and nothing happens, but if I scroll the page up and down then touch the search link then it works. In other apps the touch is spuratic and doesn't respond until 10 to 20 seconds then it will work. Very disappointing! Also getting long delay on page refresh, and it's not an issue with my network, I'm getting +50mbps speed test results on my iPad.

Update: After performing a reset (erase all settings and content) twice, and reloading all apps from iCloud, the keyboard and touchscreen are now working as expected. Touch sensitivity seems fine. I now think there is no hardware problem (at least with mine), but that the software is unstable. My only remaining problem is the one Ragilpin mentions with Safari. Sometimes pages don't show up until you move the screen, and also, sometimes clicking on a link doesn't work until you move the screen up and down. I expect this a software bug that will be fixed soon.

When i bought my iPad Air last year i used it for long awful months till apple fixed the apps & safari crashes, Lets hope history doesn't repeat It self this time with iPad Air 2! I did a full reset and the problem is gone for now but this isn't a solution, Apple needs to fix this immediately, After these long years shame to see IOS less stable than android and windows phone.
