iPhone 6 clicking noise coming from home button and also a little loose..anyone else have this issue or suggestions on how to handle it? Any and all suggestions are appreciated

It seems as if when I push my home button there is a loud click or a clicking noise that shouldn't be there. If I push the home button in certain areas or kind of on the side it's not so bad. Also it seems as if the button is kind of loose or wiggles a little bit and can also feel the little silver ring and seems as if it's either not on properly or the home button is sunken in pretty good. I was at the Apple Store and checked out some display models and didn't notice it on those and they all felt solid. Has anyone else had this issue or experienced this? Any and all suggestions will help greatly...I just want to know if it's normal or how I should go about taking care of it...thanks!

home button clicking sounds may vary per device. I have four iPhone 6 in my family and all have different sound and click feel. This is normal.. I think you are going in way more deep..

My iPhone has normal click

My sis iPhone makes a loud click sound but feels softer

Other two iPhones have loud click noise and kind of stiff

Don't worry, all this is normal. It is not a perfect world and there is no perfect iPhone 6 out there

Hello! I fixed the clicking noise. I saw a video of some dude using a cotton swab dipped in alcohol and applying on the button by pressing it using round motion and the noise stopped. Well, I'm not crazy to use abrasive product on my expensive phone, so I tryed using WD40 lubricant and it worked just fine. Not only the annoying noise stopped, but the button also feels more steady. You can try and tell me if it worked. Good luck.

I got my iphone 6 2 weeks ago and i noticed the home button having a weird extra click. So I exchanged it 2 days ago and i compared the new one with the first phone that I bought and it was fine. Few hours later same issue and I think its possibly worse now. I have an appointment at the Apple store on wednesday so I will see what they say. I also tested out 4-5 of my friends phones and not one of them have that extra clicking. Its all solid so its weird that I got 2 phones in a row that does it.

Does it look like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cofwlRcy7K4

If so, WD-40 works. Mine is perfect for up to 20 days now. What it needs is lubrification. But do not spray directly to it... use a cotton swab with DW-40 pressing around the edges.

WD-40 doesn't attack plastic as a lot of people are preaching... it is water repellant and evaporates leaving nothing but a really thin layer that lubricates the button.

Just be sure to clean the button from dirt specks before applying it...

Once again... my clicking home button had nothing to do with dirt...

My experience with Apple iPhone 6, this is my letter to Applecare:

On Monday I received the replacement device for my iPhone 6. As you can see from my case, I have replaced this phone 1st time in Service center 14.05.2015 (when I have been using the faulty phone that had the front camera shifted for 1/2 a year). After this I have been receiving replacement devices which all were faulty more than 8 times with all different sort of problems, but mostly front camera crescent, cracks, some objects inside front camera and moving screen. Apple service center has checked and confirmed each and every fault I have had.

Since I felt that the Service center cannot help me, I returned the device directly to you - Applecare. You replaced the phone 3 times. Sending brand new faulty phones back to me. In total I spent 60 days replacing the production wasters.

The phone I have now, this replacement, has the screen not fitted properly, so it moves when gently press on it near the volume buttons (I went into a shop today and checked other phones there, they don't do that of course) ..

Now I am not sure if the camera will shift forming a crescent in near future or anything else bad will show up to the replacement you sent me.. But what I am absolutely sure is that Apple iPhone 6 is the worst quality product I have ever had and there is no point really in replacing the phone, since it comes back faulty with the same or some other problem. Except a strong feeling that I want to have a quality product Apple promises, but doesn't deliver.

So, basically, even though you have replaced the device more than 10 times, I am very unhappy with the result, since I still have a faulty device. It is working for now, so I will replace it later (probably) as well as (probably) place a complaint to the Consumer Rights Protection Centre, but I am just sick and tired of the process for now and can't be bothered on paying the lawyer and spending any more time on this currently.

So, truly, this is the worst device I have ever had. Since it is faulty to start with and it gets replaced by factory wasters.

I can only throw out the phones of course, but that is stupid and does not really make sense, since it is quite expensive, as well as I bought everything Apple last year November - phones, iPad, tv, airport, macbook etc. and they are supposed to work best together.

I thank you all for your kind patience and understanding. The service you provided was outstanding.

I can only feel for you, that you have to service the lowest possible quality product.

Have a very nice day.

p.s.

Just to mention - during the same time, my wife's iPhone 6 was replaced 4 times due to cracks and screen movement. The screen moves also now on the replacement device, but I am simply sick and tired of continuing the replacement process since it proves to be pointless. So as I said, the device is clearly faulty, but I will proceed maybe later.. However probably pointless.

Also - I replaced iPad air 2 twice at the service center due to production faults.

I have just upgraded from an iPhone 4 to 6 and noticed the clicking noise on the main

button. the difference seems to be that older iPhones didn't have the circular metal outer

to the button. I believe this is to do with the finger print sensor but not sure.

if this is metal I think the clicking sound may be due to it rubbing against the main

plastic when pushed down. It only seems to happen if you press the side of the button

and not if you press right bang in the middle.

I'm quite surprised to have an annoying thing like this with new phone.

Anyway whilst not ideal my method offers a work around.

I too have been experiencing this problem. I agree with @jerryknows - he describes what I believe is the problem - dirt trapped between the button's outer ring and the glass causing mis-alignment and wobble on the button. I found a solution which seems to have worked for me and which didn't involve taking the phone/button apart:

  1. (You might want to turn your phone off first!)
  2. Get one of those compressed air canisters with a straw attachment to blow the air through.
  3. Press and hold down the button on an outer edge, so that one side of it is completely depressed at the edge. Then point the straw at the depressed area of the button, right on the edge between the button ring and the glass, and give it a good blast with the compressed air.
  4. Repeat the above by working your way all around the outer of the button.
  5. I also gave mine a good clean with an alcohol wipe around the edges of the button for good measure.

Since then my button has been as good as new with a nice solid feel to it and no wobbling or clicking/cracking noises. Maybe it will happen again if more dirt gets trapped in the future but at least I know what causes it and how to resolve it.

Hope this helps someone.

My iPhone 6 home button is the exact same, but sometimes mine seems to make a clicking noise and sinks down when I use the fingerprint scanner too.

The home button/fingerprint scanner is attached to the back of the screen assembly with a backplate and two screws. It's likely a screw, has come loose or totally come free.

Apple may tighten this up for you on the spot if you ask nicely?

Otherwise, an independent repairer can fix it up for you very quickly. I'm talking a 1-2 minute job.
