iPad Air 2 will not rotate

Just received my Apple iPad Air 2 and have had problems not experienced with previous iPad. It is stuck on landscape and does't change to portrait position when tablet is turned. There is no button for rotation and nothing in Settings to turn it on. I've tried pressing 'on' button and off button, holding them down for 10-15 seconds to bring up Apple logo, but this hasn't worked. Anyone know how to correct the problem?

From your description, it sounds like Reduce Motion is already turned off, and you still have the random rotation lock. A while ago, there was a problem where an iPad would be locked in portrait mode after running a phone app, one that only displays in portrait mode, with 1X or 2X in the lower right. Is your problem possibly caused by phone apps? Or is it completely random?

Have you restarted since the update? That might help. Here's how:

1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.

2. Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.

3. After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

Same problem here on an Air 2. Updating to 10.2 hasn't helped. It started happening about a few weeks ago. Restarting the iPad fixes it but that is hardly acceptable. This is happening every few days. I am not using any iPhone apps. The iPad rotation lock is not switched on. Switching rotation lock on and off does not help. Reduce motion is off. There is clearly some software issue on Air 2's that needs resolving.

Hi. Please report your issue here https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html. Be sure to mention your device, since it seems to be device-specific. Another fix suggested a while ago was to install a Clinometer app from the app store. There's a nice free one available. And run it when the rotation locks, just to get the data flowing again. You might give that a try.
