OS X Yosemite Keeps Crashing To Log-In Screen

Hi

I had previously been using the OS X Yosemite Beta and upgraded to the full version, but I have had nothing but problems with it. My MacBook Air keeps crashing back to the log-in screen. It happens in numerous ways - I could be opening an app, closing an app, reducing an app, or saving a document (etc) and then the screen flickers and goes back to the log-in screen.

I am running:

OS X Yosemite 10.10

1.7 GHz Intel Core i7

8GB 1600 MHz DDR3

500GB Storage

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Apple has started a repair extension program for 2011 Macbook Pros and Retina, though this step is just repair and not a replacement its the first step of acknowledging that there is a problem.

I read this, but I think in this post there are people with iMac, Mac Pro and Mac Mini with the same problem, isn't it? o maybe it's not related to this..

Anyway, 2011, it took 4 years to Apple and many people pressure to recognized the failure...

ups, it seems that you posted while I was writting...

200º??? en serio?

Sadly, the 13" Retina MBP is not included in that even though I'm experiencing all of the same crashes/reboots that it describes. I never had these issues until 10.10.2. Now, my 2012 Retina MBP 13.3" reboots at least once/twice a week on its own, sometimes even from a black sleep mode screen. Never been so frustrated with Apple! This stability is suddenly worse than Windows.

How did you do this? I clicked on Yosemite 10.10.2 in the App Store and it said it was already installed but that I could download the 10.10 installer. I did that and it asked if I wanted to install on Macintosh HD and would restart to continue installing. I hit cancel, is this going to do an upgrade or a fresh install?

Thanks, anything is worth a shot after all these horrendous reboots.

Well, bummer. Was truly hoping this workaround was going to do it. I updated (non clean) over itself Monday morning after your explanation and I've been running stable every since, but then again, I did have times where I'd go almost a week between reboots as well. I sure hope that Apple fixes it in the next public beta, because it is unacceptable.

Yes, it’s definitely an intermittent problem. My Mac Mini is no longer under warranty. In addition, I have Windows 7 installed in Bootcamp, and I’ve added a second hard drive, so I know Apple wouldn’t help me, and would likely insinuate that it’s somehow my fault. I’ve never seen this problem before Yosemite though, so I can only say it’s most likely an operating system issue.

Here is what I discovered: I made a clean installation and had no crashes any more since than although my kind of working didnt change. The only things that keep crashing are the browsers: from time to time Firefox or Chrome are crashing. But I still think this is because of the Flash Plugin.

So my kind recommendation: invest some time in a clean installation and it MAY solve your problem. My MBP 2010 is running without crashes since two weeks. But I keep an eye on it and post as soon as I suffer a crash. :-)

Mac OS X 10.10.3 is still in beta. There are proper places to discuss beta software, but I don’t think this is it. Beta software is intended to be unfinished and will, therefore, have issues that range from minor to major. It’s a given that it may crash, issue kernel panics, and possibly make your computer unstable or unusable. Even data loss is not uncommon.

It looks like the whole Yosemite is in an awful beta state. That is the reason why are we all here. We are not complaining that some cutting edge application or peripheral does not work with our system, but that it crashes without any visible reason or after very basic operations. And we are hoping with every new release (even beta) that our problems will be solved.

I can’t speak for everyone else, but I came here because of the subject at the top of this page: “OS X Yosemite Keeps Crashing To Log-In Screen”. And I was rather hoping that if others had the same problem, they may know how to fix it.

Evidently there are plenty of others with the same problem, but nobody (including Apple) seems to have a fix. I hope Apple is able to fix this at some point, but until then, introducing beta software with disclaimers like "Warning: Do not use this software on production systems and certainly never on mission-critical equipment, such as servers" into this discussion does nothing but muddy the waters, so I think I will just unsubscribe from this thread.

Best of luck to everyone.
