OS X Yosemite Keeps Crashing To Log-In Screen

Hi

I had previously been using the OS X Yosemite Beta and upgraded to the full version, but I have had nothing but problems with it. My MacBook Air keeps crashing back to the log-in screen. It happens in numerous ways - I could be opening an app, closing an app, reducing an app, or saving a document (etc) and then the screen flickers and goes back to the log-in screen.

I am running:

OS X Yosemite 10.10

1.7 GHz Intel Core i7

8GB 1600 MHz DDR3

500GB Storage

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Just received this from Dropbox:

"We’re reaching out to let you know about an issue in Apple’s new OS X Yosemite that causes problems with Dropbox. You can resolve this issue by installing the latest Software Update for OS X Yosemite.

OS X Yosemite may occasionally cause some programs to crash when you open, save-as, or first save a file. These crashes are rare but happen when an application, such as Dropbox, uses Yosemite’s official Finder integration — and if that program crashes because of this interaction, unsaved changes may be lost.

To fix this issue, Apple has released OS X Update 10.10.1. This update is available for free in the Mac App Store. Details on how to update your Mac are available on Apple’s support site."

Not much of a help if the issue persists after update, but thought I'd share; the Finder integration issues may explain why so many different applications seem to trigger the event ...

As a follow up to my own post earlier, re-enabling the translucency preference had no long term success.

I am a relatively long time Mac user, and I have never seen this issue of crashing and kicking you back to the login screen before I upgraded to OS X Yosemite. This has happened to me a number of times since I upgraded. The only common denominator I can see here is OS X Yosemite. Operating system instability used to be the sole domain of Microsoft Windows (one of the reasons I switched). Steve Jobs would be absolutely appalled at this. Come on Apple. This is just not acceptable!

Another follow up: the newest update definitely did not resolve. Minimized Photoshop and then got the crash/login screen. Very frustrating, as I was in the middle of multiple tasks (which actually seems to be a common factor for me) ... I acknowledge this is more of a rant than a helpful post, but I, too, have been a long time advocate, and this is very disruptive to both my workflow and my confidence in new releases.

I haven't seen the issue since 10.10.2, but I think I've just been lucky going off others who say they still see it. Although for a brief period after the update, I lost keyboard and mouse after a sleep which totally sucked. It happened 5 times, then went away... If safari is up for a while, images on sites I'm at start to get mangled and flash while moving the mouse around. When the problem happened for me, it was mostly while interacting with safari and usually a little after coming back from the login screen. This release hasn't been very fun so far, at least I haven't lost data yet.

I have an i7 Quad Core processor with 16GB of RAM. That should be more than enough to run Chrome with a dozen or so tabs open. Granted there are quite a few other background processes running like Dropbox, etc., but I've had it under heavier loads running VMware with no problems. This is definitely some sort of bug with Yosemite. I never had this issue before I upgraded. Really hope Apple can figure this one one soon. Murphy's law says it will always crash at the most inopportune time, and it does!
