My Macbook Pro is going extremely slow

I have a Macbook Pro from mid 2010. It is currently running Mavericks and over the past year it has been running slow. I made a previous thread which can be linked here. My Macbook Pro is going extremely slow. Please help

Anytime I use apps such as Safari, Spotify, Pages, iPhoto, and so on I get the pinwheel of death and the computer slows down drastically. The CPU temperature goes upwards of 180 degrees and the fans run at 6200 rpm. This happens consistently.

Could it be that I don't have too much RAM? I currently have 4gb of ram and this model of Macbook Pro can support up to 8gb of ram. What about HardDrive space? I have noticed that it fluctuates between 28-40gb free, which doesn't make sense to me since I am not downloading anything at all so there is no reason for it to fluctuate that much. I have also noticed that I have over 90gb of "Other" data used up on my hard drive. Where does this come from?

The computer is almost unusable. Please someone help me out here. This is not what I expect from an Apple product.

Here are the Etrecheck results

I am now getting a message that says "startup disk is almost full" yet I have at least 60gb of memory free!

I assume you mean 60GB of hard disc space remaining! Have you carried out a reboot with shift key held down? If so how was it speed wise?

When you boot the machine are there a lot of applications reopened? This will cause a slow down if there are lots of applications open on shutdown as the default is to reopen all applications previously open on a boot. Take a screen shot of the Dock once the machine is up and running and post it here.

Q1. Was the Disk Repair in the Recovery Partition OK?

- "The only application that opens up is chrome..." That is very peculiar: there should not start any non-Apple app !

Q2.It was not even installed according to the list with which you started this thread. Did you install Chrome?

Q3. What did you do since you started this thread?

Q4. Can you send a list of what is in your applications folder and utilities folder.

I keep on getting the message that my startup disk is full even after I have deleted many files and I now have over 70gb of space free.

When you ran the original etrecheck and posted the result you had about 30GB of disc space but you didn't indicate that you were receiving the message about the startup disk is almost full, what has changed on your system since the original etrecheck?

Can I suggest you run etrecheck again and repost the results?

Can you have a look at the network activity shown in Activity Monitor to see if there is anything continuously sending/receiving data, if there is, what is it?

Have you got some kind of disk optimisation software or antivirus software installed and running in the background?

Yes at that time I was not getting the message that my startup disk was almost full.

When I got the message I deleted many video files and got my disk space up to around 70gb -80gb free. I didn't change anything on my system that would make the notice come out.

Here are the results of the etrecheck I just ran

Now Chrome is in your LoginItems !! take it out, then Uninstall it and see for a few days (restart). Remove it from the LoginItems.

You have enough free space on the disk now.

The PageOuts are not worrysome, as before.

The .dat00c2.000 I have never seen before (and not in your earlier Etrecheck list:

In Finder click the GO menu, hold the Alt(option) key and choose Library; in there open the LaunchAgents folder, in there MOVE the .dat00c2.000 file to the desktop (you have to set seeing hidden files before), then restart.

What is the result?

Lex
