yosemite upgrade problems

I've recently upgraded to Yosemite, and since then have been experiencing downgraded performance on my MacAir. Slowness, freezing, delayed response when trying to "wake up", memory problems (can't open multiple apps at same time without getting a warning), etc.

As per advice from this community, I "repaired disk permissions" and "repaired disk" in Disk Utilities, I reset the System Management Controller (SMC), and I reset the PRAM. I also removed all non-compatible software, cleaned it of 3rd party apps (including Genieo), and updated all out-dated software. Yet I'm not noticing any changes. Still get memory problems (e.g., tells me it can't save a document because too many files are open, when it's the only one open!), Excel and Skype randomly freeze, start-up is slow, sometimes the monitor won't "wake up" immediately when I touch a key, and I can't manage to get "save as" to work without the screen flashing and the whole computer freaking out!

Below is my Etresoft report. Any advice on what to do?

Thanks!

Download the app called Find Any File

It is an awesome tool and it will, unlike spotlight, show you everything stored on your computer.

I believe you can get it freely on the MacAppStore...

Then search away for anything you like. If it is on your drive, you will see it..

You can then delete (Move to Trash) directly from within the application, itself.

Happy Hunting...

OK. I have no clue what a cache is...

They are used to speed up your mac for many of the things it does repetitively. The System uses them so that it doesn't have to look up information in many places from your hard drive when your reboot. Browsers use them to store the contents of pages you visit so that if you need to revisit the site it doesn't necessarily have to download the contents again. Most anything that is repetitive.

If you delete the cache, then it will just need to be rebuilt at some point which slows things down initially, but in the long run will make your computing experience somewhat faster. There is nothing in them that cannot be replaced. The only time I ever clean them is when I suspect one or more have become corrupt or too full and then only the one I suspect, not all of them at once. There are several free utilities that will do that for you.

Had a somewhat similar experience.

Spent a whole day trying to update to Yosemite after half a day spent downloading it.

It finally seemed to have completed the update after boot, only to discover that Mail wasn't set up at all, the documents folder was empty as well as the Applications and to add insult to injury, went to the Genius who told me they could do the update but it would cost me $99.00 (on top of the money buying Yosemite which I had already paid).

Apple seems to have had a very worrisome turn to the worst after Jobs demise, launching programs and updates that are DEFINITELY not ready for distribution. Are they using Windoze-minded people to program or is it that in order to speed production they are resorting to build low quality/crappy things. There is no justification to waste hours or even days to download an OS (Yosemite) which, after all these pains, can't even set itself up using the data from the previous OS (Mavericks and Lion).

For the time being I will definitely NOT upgrade. Enough headaches. Apple better clean up its act.
