Why does my iPhone 6 not show up in my computer when it's plugged in with the USB cable?

Hello

I have an Iphone 6 for about one week now. I would like to view my photos and movies on my laptop (windows 7). But I can't view them because it doesn't show up as a portable device in my computer. When I plug it in I do hear the sound as if any USB would make.

Does anyone know what's going on? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks a lot!

I am using Windows 8 and here is how I fixed this issue for iPhone 6 Plus:

From Windows Explorer, right click on "This PC" --> Properties --> Device Manager. Under "Portable Devices," right click on the one that has error and choose "Uninstall." Disconnect the USB cable from iPhone and then re-connect it. The "Import Photos and Videos" Window should pop up. Go back to Windows Explorer and you should notice a drive with your iPhone user's name (may be your full name); this drive should be in front of your C: drive.

Thank you so much johnnyb for your precise and helpful advise mentioning this media espresso programme - you have saved me from wasting some more hours on this issue or even from buying some other connecting cables or installing unnecessary transfer software ... your advised solution was easy to do and surprising - how can such an tiny/rare (?) programme block the whole functioning of an, as so often mentioned, easy transfer of photos ... Thanks again for finding this out and spreading the word !!!

i use window vista + iPhone 6plus, and i had that problem for a while, iTunes recognized my phone but it didn't appear as computer device.

i just managed to fix it. try this.

1. control panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Auto Play

2. change your iPhone device default to "open folder to view files using Windows Explorer"

3. connect your iPhone

hope this works for you.

This problem plagued me for two weeks and I had tried EVERYTHING - until I found the simple answer on some obscure website. Here's the simplest solution yet! With your iPhone, open up the Camera app and take a picture or two. Make sure the phone is not plugged in when you take the picture(s). Next, connect your iPhone to your Windows computer, and it will immediately show up in the 'My Computer' window. After you plug your iPhone cable into the computer USB slot, launch iTunes and go to the Store tab in the upper left pull-down menu... click on "Authorize This Computer". Or you may also receive a message asking if you want to “Trust” this computer. When selected “Yes” or “OK” – your iOS device will now be detected.😁
