Why does my iPhone 6 not show up in my computer when it's plugged in with the USB cable?

Hello

I have an Iphone 6 for about one week now. I would like to view my photos and movies on my laptop (windows 7). But I can't view them because it doesn't show up as a portable device in my computer. When I plug it in I do hear the sound as if any USB would make.

Does anyone know what's going on? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks a lot!

Hi

Since ios 7 you can do almost everything over your WiFi

You DONT need to use your PC

Backup to iCloud on your PC

Then go to settings on iPhone iCloud back up now

If you need more space on iCloud just click on buy more space

Then all your photos will be on all your apple devices

Enable home sharing & iCloud sharing on all apple devices .

We have 3 iphones / 4 ipads & have not used our PC

From them for over 2 years all done on WiFi .

Cheers

Brian

I tried what sbgleason said to do and the troubleshoot came up with no problems, even though my connection was on off on off... then I hit troubleshoot on the apple Mobile device next to it, and it told me to plug my phone into a USB 2.0 instead of a 3.0. So I took a look at my USB ports, on my laptop, the 3 USB ports on the left side have blue on the inside, which for some reason I seem to recall that the blue ones signify USB 3.0, on the right side I have 2 grey USB ports. I plugged it in on the right side and so far... 5 minutes later, it seems to be working ok. I'll try connecting to iMazing now... and it works, with a USB symbol next to my phone. (iMazing works through Wifi as well, just in case you guys wanted an alternative to getting pictures off of your iPhone.)

I use windows 2008 Server, but I guess it's valid for windows 7 as well.

- Right click on "My computer"

- Select Properties / Device Manager

- On "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" locate "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver"

- Select Properties and then the tab "Driver"

- Select [Update Driver]

- Select "Browse my computer for driver software" option

- Locate this folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers

- Check include subfolders

- Click [Next]

Windows will update your drivers and then

Your phone and your pc will make an "I found you" sound and voila!

Hope this helps

I tried the fix by sbgleason because I found it as apple usb in devices and printers but when I troubleshooted it it said there weren't any problems. I opened iTunes and it said that some update to be able to recognize when a connected device is connected was not updated so I updated it, unplugged the phone, closed iTunes, then plugged it back in and I was able to see my phone on both iTunes and My Computer.

Click the change settings button

Scroll down and find itunes click it off then back on and click OK

How to bring photos from your iphone to your Windows 7 PC.

I just got an iphone 5 and my mac is older, so I cannot update to the latest system/iTunes to my photos over. So, I thought I would try pulling them on to my husbands Windows 7 PC.

I read through all these posts. Tried the Control Panel, select device and hit "troubleshoot" option. Didn't work. Tried reinstalling the Apple USB Device driver. Didn't work. Then, on another site, I found a simple-sounding solution. I was desperate after more than an hour of no success, so I tried it, and it worked!

Make sure your iphone is unlocked, go to "photos" on the phone and select one of your photos. Then, connect your iphone to your Windows 7 PC via USB.

Now it shows up as an external device and you can copy over the photos.

It's a bummer that I need to use a Windows PC to pull photos off my iphone, eh?

Good luck all!

Exactly the reason I logged in.

Itune S u c k s and I don't use it regularly because

1) i don't have real need for it

2) When I do have to use it, Menu bar is hidden by default so I have to configure it

3) I backup on external drive and often, when I re login after six month, with external drive connected, it puts defaults files (media folder) in C: then, says Erase and Sync.

I hate that message as it's scary to me.

4) It waste my time to move my iphone photos to my windows computer storage/external drive (They do this by saying drivers are all good, but you just can't see the device).

I am technical and competent, I can and will figure it out. But wasting time over and over every six month when I try to back it up, is driving me crazy.

I have been buying apple products because it suppose to be easy allowing me to focus on other things important to me. But NO, Apple wants to give sh** storage, charge highest, lock you in and don't let your files and photos be transferred so you upgrade.

I question, why I used to like Apple? I am on board since first iphone, but now, I am will be shopping for another one that will be other than apple.

Why does my iPhone 6 not show up in my computer when it's plugged in with the USB cable?
