LG 31MU97 4K Display not showing 4K on MacPro

Hey there - I just bought the LG 31 MU97 4K Display and the best resolution I can get out of it is 3840 x 2160. Wondering if there needs to be a service update of something similar in order to get the full 4K on the new 2013 MacPro - thanks.

Mac Pro (Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), 6 Core

So I have a 2012 macbook pro. I can't for the life of me get it to run at 4096 with the display port. It only shows 3840 as max even after holding the alt/option key and clicking on the scale. I can however use HDMI and get the full resolution. Albeit at a much lower refresh rate than I would like.

It does work for me though because I use the larger monitor as a second screen to display ARGB images from my mac pro.

Not ideal but for now I'm happy enough. Wonder why the difference between hdmi and displayport?

Most TV sets and Monitors have multiple inputs so that you can plug different sources into different ports on the display.

When one is a Mac, you need to be sure the display is "paying attention" to the port you want the Mac to use when the Mac is powered up, or the display may stay blank.

One model of ultra-wide LG display requires you to plug in both BOTH display ports -- one for each side of the screen (behaves like a 5K display) -- and not doing so gives no picture.

So isn't toggling to the "mini Display port" on the monitor settings make the monitor pay attention to the port?

Right now, I am using a Samsung monitor, and its driving me crazy. When the mac goes to sleep, it awakes to a blank screen (monitor powers up) but no image. My only way around it is to unplug the mini display wire from the back of the mac pro and plug it into another port -- doing so "usually" restores the picture.

I had problems with this monitor and a MacPro late 2013 to show 4096x2160 at 60hz connected by daisy chain through a Hard Drive with thunderbolt port.

While I used it by daisy chain, the monitor has problems and I need to setup to show 4096x2160 ONLY at 50hz PAL. But sometimes it lost signal.

After I reconnect this monitor directly to thunderbolt on MacPro, and now it works perfect 4096x2160 at 60hz.

I post this information if anybody has same issues like me. Regards.
