Apple Pay Not Working "Hold Near Reader to Pay"

I have tried Apple Pay at Several locations, including Mc Donalds and such, with no luck.

1. My iPhone 6 Plus prompted me to pay with Apple Pay

2. I gently placed my finger on the fingerPrint Reader and it reads my fingerprint

3. Says Hold Near Reader to pay. Then nothing... I wait and wait and nothing.

I have tried with and without a case, holding it near and directly on the reader, and with both Credit and Debit cards.

Does anyone have any ideas?

the last time was at a shop with a NFC reader, and the lady ahead of me used her iPhone 6 just fine.

Thank You

Ok, so when it says 'reader', what is it talking about? What is the reader? The camera? I put my fingerprint on the scanner whatever and then it said hold near reader but *** is the reader? I feel stupid for not being able to figure this out. Google has not helped.

During the last 2 days apple pay has not worked. My card is valid and I have an iphone6. I tried it in Boots and Costa Coffee both in the UK. The connection is made , the fingerprint works and the box is checked but then I am told it has not worked. Seems to me that apple have not perfected this yet . Is it time to look for another method of contactless payment which actually works?

I am having the same problem. My iPhone 6+ worked fine until the last month or so. I get that "Hold Near Read to Pay" message. I went through a whole process with Apple Care. I am not sure if it is the IOS 9 upgrades or having my camera replaced on the recall. I know the camera works wonderfully so maybe the IOS 9 upgrade? It is very annoying to have an upgrade make things that were fine now - NOT. Don't get me started on the IOS 9 podcast app upgrade.

Thought I would let you know my experience. After working with the online chat support. I went and tried ApplePay but it still didn't work. I made a genius appointment. After putting the phone through several tests which it basically seemed to work OK. However, the tech did think it was a little slow. He thought it should read a little further away. They gave me a new phone and so far it is working fine. I just updated to IOS 9.1 so I hope that will not screw it up.

This is basically what I'm seeing as well with my iPhone 6. Sometimes it works and sometimes the phone just seems to stop "talking" to the payment terminal. The iPhone clearly sees the payment terminal because it wakes up Apple Pay and it's happy with my fingerprint but then just doesn't seem to make the payment. I had the same issue again in Boots today, one of the original supporters in the UK if I recall, and ended up paying using the same debit card that Apple Pay uses via contactless.

It really is an issue of confidence and reliability. I love the concept but for some reason the implementation just isn't quite there yet.

When making payments using Apple Pay I found t's easier on both myself and the cashier to know what form of payment I'm going to use. Example if paying with VISA I say "VISA" or if debit I say "INTERAC" to the cashier. Also I've noticed there are still a few retailers that have yet to turn on NFC payment on their POS terminal and insist on inserting the card using the chip reader. It truly doesn't matter which bank your VISA or MASTERCARD is with as long as the creditor supports Apple Pay and the POS terminal has NFC turned on.

Me also! Replaced IPhone 5 with new 6s so that I can use Apple Pay. Added my Visa debit card and authorised ok. Worked first time on next purchase - magic! Has never worked since. Also seems now to have delete card from passbook? Do we have to add a new card everytime we use this system. Seems stupid to me far easier to just get the card out and tap it on the reader - always works!

for 50 yr olds Just check that you are placing your finger over the home button and not the fingerprint that appears on the screen!! I've been ranting for weeks that Apple Pay stopped working, tried ALLthe tips, then my husband witnessed me trying it again in a store and pointed out that I had my finger on the screen finger print!! Worked when I actually put it on the home button , of course!! Just a reminder for anyone with 50 year old fuzzy head and a 2016 new technology.

Just upgraided a couple weeks ago to a SE from a 5S partly in order to use Apple Pay. Didn't work the first two times at Cub. I'd sat out if 8 tries, it's worked twice. Then tried using it yesterday at the Apple Store! No luck with two different scanners. They thought I must have a faulty sensor so I have to make an appt for the Genius Bar.

You'd think. Went to the Apple Store/Genius Bar. All their diagnostics said the SE was fine. He blamed it on the stores - gotta find someone to blame, right? I kept bringing up then why didn't it work in this Apple store last week, plus they had tried two different scanners. He didn't have an answer for that. So I went directly to a Cub store to try it and it worked. Today at Walgreens, no luck whatsoever. This is becoming so frustrating. The phone is 1 month old. So now I have to find time to go back to the Apple store and find something cheap to buy to test it out.
