ios crash report due to a third party application

My son was watching something on his iPhone (5c) iOS 7.1.2 and received this message in Safari "http://supportcallnow<dot>com 'warning!! iOS Crash Report' " Due to a third party application in your phone, iOS crashed. Contact Support for an immediate fix - 1800-***-2251.

Fairly sure this is a virus or at least a scam. Have already tried to reset by holding the power and square down until the apple icon appears, but to no avail. I cannot get the message off of the Safari screen .

Here is what the error I received said; due to a third party application in your phone iOS is crashed. Contact support

for immediate fix 1-800-874-8529 BTW I have an IPad. I think that this theft by deception which can be a misdemeanor, or Delong, depending

on the value. I think I will cintact the appropriate authorities, the FBI, or the fair trade commission and lay a complaint. These criminals needs to be

aarrested for this fraud. You other folks might consider doing this also as there is more strength in numbers. I am a retired law enforcement officer

and I known there is a violation here.

Lawrence, the male subject told me he was in California. Of course he could be lying. I am not sure if he was over seas he would be

using an 800 number. I am not up on this information. I am going to do a Google search on the number I received and see what I can find out.

I have already sent an e-mail to my local FBI IN Philadelphia. I also noticed from other post they were given a different number to call than the number I had. It may also be too minor of a thing for the FBI to get involved. Below is a copy of the e-mail I sent to the FBI.

To whom it may concern:

I would assume you would have jurisdiction in a matter such as theft by deception that occurs over the www. Today while using my mini IPAD I had an error message come through with the following text: Due to a third party application in your phone (mine is an IPAD) iOS is crashed. Contact support for immediate fix- 1-800-874-8529. I called this number and talked to some with an accent that I could not understand. This male subject advised me he would have to download iOS to my iPad and that the cost would be $80.00. I told him to forget it, that I was not going to pay that amount of money to download anything. I went to Google and searched for the iOS error message. This took me to the Apple Communities website where I found other folks had had the same thing happen to them. I found a very simple fix for this on the Apple communities website. There is not any doubt in my mind that this it theft by deception. I am a retired law enforcement officer and I made several arrest of this nature under state statues. The male subject told me he was from some where in California - if he is to be believed. I noticed that other people had different 800 numbers they were told to call who had this same error message. If this is outside your jurisdiction maybe you could pass it on to the proper authorities. It is hard to tell how many other people who may have not been as gun shy as I was, and forked over the money. Please give my complaint some consideration. Let's stop these criminals from ripping innocent people off.

Thank you for your consideration.i

Hi I had that happen today.. I called and they told me they would fix it for 30$. I was like yeah right...I will call apple. I did and they fixed it. Hold home and the off button. Leave it off for 2 mins and turn it on. Then press the home twice and swipe safari up to close. Open it again and close all windows and clear history. It then should be fixed.

MArcela, this is the easiest way:

Adamfrombessemer's advice works if you're surfing sites and get a "ios Crash Report" message in Safari on your iPhone like I did!

1. Place the phone in Airplane mode.

2. Go to Settings > Safari > And Clear History and website Data

3. Reopen safari and all will be gone. Turn off Airplane mode.

Definite scam!

This scam is still going on as it just happened to me about 30 minutes ago. Same message and I still had use of all of my apps, Internet etc. I did call the number, which evidently changes every time this pops up, as i was to call 888-7**-4935. He became defensive when I questioned if they were associated with Apple and hung up why I said I would not pay $30.00 to let them repair my ipad. I new it was a scam as soon as they answered the phone. Since this happened when I was scrolling through Facebook and it froze that app I simply deleted and re- installed. Problem solved. No data lost .no settings lost. Message gone.

I went ahead and did the airplane mode and cleared the history, but it also closed all of the pages I had open. Is there any way to retrieve them? I do not remember what all I had open to re-look them up. If not I'll just live with it haha but figured I'd ask cause I had the same error message pop up today and cleared my history.
