Macbook Air shuts down if it is not plugged into the power outlet through the adapter. What is happening?

Problem description:

Mid-2013 Macbook Air 13 inch. Shuts down when unplugged from power adapter. It 1st started just shutting down intermittently on battery power. Sometimes when it powers back-up on the battery power only the fan would be blowing hard. But it is now at the point that if it is not connected to the power adapter it will not come on. I have tried resetting SMC and PRAM but to no avail. The battery is showing 100% charge with only 137 battery cycle count.

Well, there are a couple different opinions on that.

In my opinion, because iWorm is documented to include backdoor features, which means it could have been given instructions to install other malicious software at some point, the only way to be sure your system is clean is to erase the hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch. Some will argue that it hasn't been shown to actually do that, regardless of what its capabilities are, but do you really want to take the chance?

Not sure where you learned that. It very much depends on when you were infected. If it was before the botnet was shut down, then there is a good chance that there was additional malware files installed by the backdoor to capture privacy information from your hard drive and upload it to the bad guys network. Perhaps you missed reading that when I posted it last week. I'm unaware of what those files might be so an erase and restore is the only thing I can recommend for such a situation.

I had the same problem with my MBA, and tired a multitude of solutions, short of taking it to the Genius Bar.I had read a post about the battery getting shorted and burned. I decided to visually check the battery and took about my iFixIt tool kit and removed the battery and upon checking it looked good, no burned smell.

I did not proceed to put it back together, as some things came up and left the battery unplugged for the rest of the day until about 8pm that night. I had removed the battery before noon that day. Low and behold, I put everything back together, powered it up, and it has been working like nothing was ever wrong.

Not sure if by disconnecting the battery it did some sort of reset with the charging/battery part of the MBA...but it may be something some of you may try if you have the right tools to take it apart and are not afraid of the removal.

Good luck...
