Google Chrome won't open (bounces forever on dock) ever since update to Yosemite

Ever since I have updated my iMac to Yosemite, I cannot open Google Chrome. When I click the icon on my dock, it will bounce up and down forever and then I will have to force quit the application to stop it.

I have tried re-installing the app and turning off the firewall but that still won't fix the problem, however if I try and open Google Chrome on another user on my iMac, it will work perfectly.

Does anyone know why Google Chrome is doing this ever since I updated my iMac to Yosemite?

After a lot of investigation, I've finally found the solution.

You need to open Terminal (Spotlight search - type "terminal") and run the following command:

sudo rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Google/Chrome

It might affect Chrome user data in some way so use it at your own risk, but at least it helped me to run Chrome on macOS. Other approaches that seemed safer didn't work for me.

I had the same issue on the weekend. I need Chrome for work purposes. I deleted the app using Trash Me, and then found the Chrome folder and deleted that as well. I re-downloaded Chrome, and all is working again. I was using Google Chrome Canary as a work around while I tried to figure out a fix for Chrome.

Try deleting the com.google.Chrome plist file from your User/Library/Preferences folder. This fixed the problem for me on 10.10.3

Linc Davis instructions (Step 1) resolved this issue for me.

Chrome cannot read and write to its data directory

I have the same question but, my MacBook Pro is running OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks. And instead of bouncing repeatedly mine just bounces once and stops. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Google Chrome and I still have the same problem. Can anyone help me??
