Toni,

Really serious:

Q1. you have CleanMyMac installed. This is already enough to crap your system. Was it already installed before Yosemite or did you install it after upgrading to Yosemite? What did you do with it, removing "unnecessary" System files, or only Caches? This information is very important for knowing what to advise.

Q2. You have hacked software on your system, and you probably used a keygenerator. This can hamper your system and certainly makes it unsafe. I will come back on what to do after answer to Q1. Especially the keygenerators are very unsafe, consider this: how are these guys making money?

3. Google Chrome is a badly programmed browser, fast but unsafe and a resource leaker. If you want an other browser than Safari, use Firefox or Opera: fast and safe.

4. You should not have anything in SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LogmeinItems, remove the entries with the minus sign underneath.

5. Delete the two AdobePDF plugins in MacintoshHD->Library->InternetPlugins.

6. Update Flashplayer.

7. #3-7 are less important than “1 and #2.

Don't worry about the high PageOuts figure, it will be gone after the cleaning.

Hi Lex

I really appreciate your time and support. I'll start with No 1. and work through. I cannot find CleanlyMac and I'm not sure if my IT guy added it or not! When I first bought my Mac I assumed he was good for advice etc! If I have any software that is not original please let me know which and I will remove it even though I payed good money! I have Disk Doctor and AppCleaner. I can remove Chrome and only use it as i am a web developer and liked to check sites to ensure they display correctly. I'm happy to take on all your professional advice to get my Mac working as it should do.

Regards

1. CMM may not be in your Applications or Utilities folder, but it certainly is there.

I assume that you did not use it (?), and that it was already installed when you upgraded to Yosemite: if this is NOT the case, say it before you do anything.

We do following to remove CMM:

download FindAnyFile from http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/

Empty the trash bin

Start it and type macpaw in the search field, then click the Find button while holding the Alt(option) key, (type your password) and there will be a list of macpaw: it is clear what and where. If you CTL+click an entry you can "move to trash" (not: delete immediately), it will then still be displayed but in the Trash. Do not empty the trashbin.

Then type cleanmymac in the search field, these will be displayed, move to the trash (not: delete immediately) also. Do not empty the trashbin. Quit FindAnyFile.

RESTART the mac, now empty the Trashbin.

---

The mac must already behave a lot better.

--

Do #3 to 7 but add Diskdoctor and Appcleaner to the uninstall list !

Appcleaner gives a false feeling of completeness, although there are many appdeleters that are much worse. The only app deleter that I could find that gives a complete deletion (and not too much) most of the times is Appdelete by Reggie Ashworth (paid), but I am not sure if it is Yosemite compatible. And even this one is not perfect (impossible).

Diskdoctor is crap, like Diskdrill and man others.

--

And answer Q2.

Hi Lex

Thank you and I have removed CMM, using the FindAnyFile and it worked well 🙂

Diskdoctor and Appcleaner also removed. Looking forward to the next steps to get my Mac back and you were right as it is already much faster including the start up time! I am going away for 3 days and will follow up on my return. Please let me know the next steps ... what ever it takes! 🙂

Thanks again Lex

Hello, mine slowered start ups form 14,5 seconds to 20,5 seconds since installed Yosemite, and couldn't find any fix at the web, waiting for Apple to do something about it.

To find CleanmyMac or any other app or .plist or whatever, you can download iFileX that is a tiny and efective tool, you can print what you are looking for (CleanmyMac) in the box and choose the box "Folder", the other box leave it @ "Name" and hit Search, will open a window and hit Open.

It will tell "No Matches Found" and if found something it tells which folder it is. If found any bad/unwanted file you can fix it or send to the trash bin and if you feel you did wrong you can get them back easily from there.

I use toghether with EtreCheck to cure my MBP.

Pls. excuse my English😎
