Hi Toni,

to win a beauty prize you make more chance after this:

a. remove any hidden google updater software (installed every time you do anything with a google app, but absolutely unnecessary and eating resources) go for ever: download Google Update Uninstaller from here: http://wireload.net/products/guu-google-update-uninstaller/

Run it once, and it will remove all, and blocks all new installs (if you run it twice it will unblock again, read the download site about how to use it.)

b. in Finder MacintoshHD->Library->LaunchDaemons folder, delete the ...adobe.Switchboard.. file, and delete the ....oracle.java... file

in Finder MacintoshHD->Library->LaunchAgents folder, delete the ....oracle.java... file and the ...adobe.AAM... file

c. in Finder click the GO menu, hold the Alt(option) key and open Library folder, in there open the LaunchAgents folder, and delete the ...adobe.ARM... file.

Tell me if you still have any "hacked" software installed, if not, we are going to clean the hosts file. The hosts file is manipulated by keygenerators to make it impossible for hacked software to contact the developer sites.

Great.

Use Findanyfile and search for switchboard (check the spelling), when found in a LaunchDaemons folder move it to the trash.

Aperture no longer supported by Apple, a new iPhoto (part of the OS) will take the functions.

But imho Lightroom is a very competent and easy handling program. . I already left Photoshop long ago, GIMP (free) is an acceptable alternative, but not a beautiful User Interface.

I use Lightroom already from a long time ago, when Elements and Bridge were separated, and use the DxO Viewpoint as a plugin. I am happy with it, but this is only my personal opinion, I am of course very used to it.

If you are serious about having the three uninstalled, we can repair the hosts file, tell me

I found switchboard folder, ini, xml, launch and put them all in trash and perhaps I shouldn't have done this?

I have already signed up and paid for LightRoom and Photoshop as I am a photographer and believe these are the best. The applications I bought from a 3rd party have been moved to trash and i will download them from Adobe once everything has been cleaned up 🙂

OK, we go on:

Download /install Textwrangler from the Appstore (free).

Be careful and precise while doing the following (perhaps print this for easy following)

- In Finder click the GO menu, then select 'Go to Folder' and in the go to field type /private/etc/ and Enter

This will open the "etc" folder, in there find the hosts file (just hosts, nothing else in the name), select it and copy it to the Desktop. This is a backup.

- Now CTL+click the Hosts file in the etc folder and select 'Open With', select "other" and choose Textwrangler from Applications folder),

the file will be displayed in Textwrangler

- The text starts with (if this is different, stop, copy it, and post it here before going on):

##

# Host Database

#

# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface

# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.

##

127.0.0.1 localhost

255.255.255.255 broadcasthost

::1 localhost

fe80::1%lo0 localhost

- Select all lines below the above text, and delete them (Textwrangler may ask for unlock, do that)

- Then choose Save from the menu in Textwrangler, answer yes (type your password).

Now the file is repaired to what it should be.

- Open DiskUtility, select MacintoshHD and Repair Permissions.

- If everything went OK: restart the mac.

- Delete the file on the Desktop.

- Again go to the hosts file, and copy it to the Desktop.

- CTL+click it on the Desktop, select 'open', it opens with Textedit, check if the text is according to what it should be (see above), then quit Textedit. If OK, delete the one on the Desktop. If not post the text here.

Lex

ps: run an etrecheck list and post, for me to check.

Hi Lex

This is what's on the hosts however what you see below are my websites developed on Ampps so do I need to remove them as they belong to Ampps?

I would delete all extra lines as set out in my post.

After doing it and restarting, you can choose to not delete the backup file on the Desktop and keep it for a while, to be sure.

I do not understand well how these sites come in there (only when you used a hacked version of AMPPS): the sites in the extra lines in the hosts file are blocked in your browser ! Do you want that?

In earlier days extra lines in the hosts file (in windows and in mac) were added to block access to unwanted sites like **bad sites or other unwanted sites. But lately that is done in another way with parental control and such. It is absolutely better to have the hosts file unchanged and original at all times (as it says in the first text lines in the file itself)

Hi Lex

The Wrangler wouldn’t save the file after deleting those lines giving an error 20004

Ampps is a genuine install and a local server for websites. I could delete the websites I made, look into Ampps more before re-using?

Hosts file is unchanged. Let it be for the moment, since you did not have problems obviously with those blocked size (blocked on this computer).

The reason for using Textwrangler over Textedit is, that Textwrangler does not change the file permissions and Textedit does (thanks to Thomas Reed information). But we repaired permissions afterwards anyway.

There are still some files that we removed last time, they are not important.

Since you use Google Chrome sometimes, I propose to take it out of the SystemPrefrences->Users&Groups->LoginItems: use the minus sign underneath to remove the entry. It will not uninstall it, but now it will not startat startup and run all the time (see my arguments in one of my first posts). You start it manually now and you can Quit (from the menu) when you are done.

Happy computing, your real problems were already solved in the beginning!
