cannot change phone number in the iMessage and FaceTime

Hi - I have tried many times change the phone number in the FaceTime and iMessage, but nothing work it's appear the wrong phone number. the strange thing was when i sign in my AppleID the phone number appear correctly but when I press continue then it appear to be old wrong number again. Anyone has any idea? please help

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1

Hey! So I Had The Exact Same Problem, But I Called Up Apple Support & We Solved It! For Example The Number I Wanted To Appear Was An 02 Number. For The Activation To Go Through I Had To Have Credit, Which The Supporter Advised Me To Get (In Order For The Activation To Go Through, They May Charge). So I Topped Up, Switched The iMessage Setting On & Off And The Number I Wanted To Use Appeared! Hope It Helps.

I also get the same problem.


The old one (Iphone 5) old number.

The new oun (Iphone 6s) new number and use same Apple ID. in iCloud, iMessage and FaceTime can not change to new phone number.


For your information in Thailand. iStudio authorize cannot fix this problem.

My friend suggest me to use new number to old iphone for reactive the number icloud. now on process because size of sim card.


maybe i call to service center to ask this problem after new year holiday.

I can solve this problem.

For sharing my solution. You should be use new sim card (new phone number) to deactivate Facetime and iMessage on your old device (The last device it memory your old number) and activate Facetime and iMessage the old device with new number. It automatic update your phone number in Apple ID.

Thanks Kwan. There is no "old device". I changed to a different service provider and I now have a new number. The problem is that the OLD NUMBER is stuck in the "Send & Receive" section in iMessage settings. I have made sure the new number is in Settings/Phone, tried resetting network settings, tried resetting the phone, and tried activating iMessage when my OLD SIM card is in the phone. I have also tried contacting my service provider for help but they say the problem is at the application level.

I Have the same problem. I'm using iPhone 5s Unlocked. Recently I switched the phone service to another provider with a new number by using the same phone, but iMessage and FaceTime still show old number. I tied every method posted (I.e., sign out. Reset, system restore, etc.), none of them works. I guess it's the apple software problem. Apple, please fix it. Thanks.

Sign out of iTunes, and de-select all iMessage and FaceTime phone numbers and email addresses. Remove your iCloud account from your phone and then go into General settings and reset your phone to factory default. Re-enter your iCloud account on the phone and go back into iMessage and FaceTime to add your iCloud email address to that phone. The contact number will already be changed on your phone as well as in your iCloud account if you login at iCloud.com.
