Mail crash on IMAP account Yosemite 10.10.1

Hello,

Mail app crashes at startup when I add my university IMAP account.

Adding icould account works fine.

The Yosemite upgrade don't fix the problem.

I am having a similar issue with Mail.. it is frustrating.. tried reinstalling the OS but again facing similar problem... Mail App crashes repeatedly

Just to say that OS X 10.10.2 beta is available for testing (to the public) here, https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/ this update has fixed the IMAP problem for my MacBook Pro Mid 2010. Beware that it is a beta version and you should really backup your system before installing it.

Thanks. It works. Just upgrade to 10.10.2 and dav mail start to work again.

I have had this exact problem too, since the update on 21 Nov. Since then, I have been in contact with one of Apple's 'CPU Senior Technical Advisors' via phone and email and they have been inept in the extreme. I've sent them several copies of the error log, at their request, only to be met with complete silence. They also denied any knowledge that other people were having the same problem. A month down the line, I still have no email on my machine and no answer from Apple.

If you're on 10.10.2 beta 2, do you have any info when the fix will trickle to normal updates?

Or is there a way for normal users to move up to 10.10.2 beta 2?

This is a significant issue for my work day... (on desktop & laptop)!

acinpdx for "regular" 10.10.2 should be a matter of days now, if you want (at your own risk) to move to beta just follow the link provided in my previous post.

10.10.2 beta didn't fix it for me. some imap-accounts seem to work, some crash mail instantly. May have something to do with subfolders/namings

I have to deactivate the account via system preferences to be able to start mail again.

EDIT: I figured it out!

I use my IMAP account with several clients: macs, ios, android, webmailer etc.

One of these clients might have created a subfolder called "Entwürfe" (drafts in German) and that's exact the term that Mail (German) uses for it's drafts and makes it crash. So checkout your subfolders and remove all of them that OSX Mail doesn't use.

... your advice helped me to solve my problem with Apple mail crashing continuously throughout the day (which was very frustrating). Here's a short re-cap of what I did, now that mail has been running for 4 or 5 days without a single crash :-)

1). I removed all the accounts from mail (6 in all, 3 gmail, 2 outlook and one POP). Then I deleted any leftover mails/folders.

2). I followed Linc's instructions, see thread "My apple mail keeps crashing?".

3). In my case, the diagnostic utility found disk errors and I clicked or said yes to fix when asked.

4). Upon succesfull conclusion of disk utility, I chose to re-install OS X Yosemite, by re-staring, then holding down CMD and R when the grey screen appeared. I cannot remember from which post I got this advice, but it seemed like a good idea and I lost no data or set-up info in any of my apps.

5). Once OS X re-install was complete (about 35 minutes), I set-up the 6 e-mail accounts from scratch (I allowed each to fully synchronise to completion before starting the next).

6). For good measure, I re-started my MacBook Pro, and since then have not had a single crash!
