Mine doesn't crash but I cannot connect to my server with IMAP account

Last week I spent half a day manually re entering all accounts after upgrading to Yosemite, and they were working until yesterday.

I had the bad idea of updating Yosemite yesterday after reading "fix bugs with wifi and mail"

What a mess! now I cannot use Mail anymore. What's wrong with Apple? does anybody check the updates before publishing? is this the biggest company in the world?

I gave up I installed Inky mail app and it works perfectly

Good bye Apple!

Yes, that's my experience too. I've sent a bugreport to Apple.

Note that I'm using DavMail as an interface to a legacy Exchange server (that is normally not supported by Apple Mail). DavMail itself is accessed by Mail's IMAP interface. I'm confident that it is Mail's IMAP implementation in 10.10.1 that is to blame for this crash.

While I think that DavMail works correctly (it definitely works fine on 10.10), I think that I could cull something from the log of DavMail that may shed some light.

DavMail mentions this line in the log at the moment that Mail crashes:

> STATUS "Junk E-Mail" (UIDNEXT 1 UNSEEN 0) > 40.4 OK STATUS completed < 41.4 SELECT ""

Particularly the last line is intriguing. It does not show up on 10.10, but it does on 10.10.1. I am pretty sure this SELECT "" part is related to the error message from Mail in the system.log:

Nov 21 09:00:45 xxxx.local Mail[1596]: *** Assertion failure in -[MFIMAPAccount _IMAPMailboxForMailbox:name:createIfNeeded:], /SourceCache/Mail/Mail-1993/MailFramework/IMAP/MFIMAPAccount.m:1652 Nov 21 09:00:45 xxxx.local Mail[1596]: An uncaught exception was raised Nov 21 09:00:45 xxxx.local Mail[1596]: Require mailbox name to create IMAPMailbox for (null)

I've tried many if not all of the suggestions raised in the thread, but none of the worked for me.

I have managed to fix it! (kinda 🙂 ) , looks like the problem starts (at least for me) when the computer being shut down not properly.

What I did to solve it was to start Mail and just before it close itself I was right clicking on it and closing it from the doc.

After this was done, next time I have opened it there been no issues for a few days (until battery totally died again and issue was caused again..AND solved again)

hope it helps, good luck

After some nerve-wrecking hours I finally found someone who had found a fix that worked for me.

Michelle just saved my holiday with her instructions:

I hope they help you too.

Re: mail keeps crashing on imap account,in response to Sergey Pastukhov

Mail, if your mac is off line, save what you do to an account IMAP in a file called

operations

in

/Users/youraccountname/Library/Mail/V2/IMAP-your@email.address/.OfflineCache

When your Mac is on line Mail reads the file operations and update the server IMAP... Probably this file is written incorrectly and when Mail try to read it, it crashes.

Try to delete all files, operations included, you'll find in .OfflineCache and restart Mail.

Waiting Apple writes a patch for Mail....

LOL, I did the same, I'm not being paid by Apple to debug their stupid mistakes. I switched back to Outlook 2011 as well and it works like a charm.

I don't trust Apple anymore. This is a major failure that probably affected millions and their arrogance of not addressing the issue is beyond my comprehension.

I also noticed Safari behavior is somehow different, slow start up I don't know, so I'm now 100% on Firefox and very happy.

Good luck to everyone

Yeah, I have this exact same issue... every second day or so, Mail starts to act strange and I have to remove my main IMAP account (which is the most important one to me) in order to re-start Mail and begin the re-install through System Preferences. For a while it worked by just un-checking the Mail option without completely removing the account details in Internet Accounts. This is no longer a workable solution, and now - every second day - I have to go through the entire installation process. A bit of a tiresome task! I truly hope Apple will release a fix for this at the soonest!
