I've been having the same problem ever since I downloaded the new version of iTunes.

There is hope, finally after 36 hours I have finally upgraded my final non-drm track. I have not changed any settings on my pc only repeat selection of the resume button! It was a server overload problem which hopefully apple will learn from in the future, if the whole music store goes drm free would assume that itunes will be down for weeks! Strange my credit card was processed without any problems!

It's probably not because they don't care. It's
probably because they have tons of problems with this
transition. This will pass with time. We are
probably overloading the servers. 🙂

Not according the response we are getting. I had no problem initially getting my upgraded tracks, but now it's stopped cold. According to Apple it's got to be on my end.

I'm about to check it again first time this morning... It's telling me it's going to take 11 minutes... 12 minutes... 13 minutes... 17 minutes... This is going the wrong way folks. It's downloaded 512kb of 6.4 MB. So much for the whole "it must be on your (read: users) end" story from applesauce...

I'll never upgrade another track, I swear to you. It's not worth the headache... 19 minutes... 20 minutes... This aint dialup people, what gives?... I can start up musicmatch right now and download 10 tracks before this steaming pile of dog vomit gets done... just dropped to two minutes... 4 minutes... 5 minutes... give it props for working today, it wouldn't work at all yesterday... still at 5 minutes... LOL, it says it's going to take 10 seconds... nope, now it's at 45 seconds... error 3259!

Just started up again... at least it still has what it downloaded... 11 minutes... 8 minutes... I so want to curse right now... all this for one lousy track! Actual time gone by so far? 11 minutes! This is ridiculous... 9 minutes, I can hear that 3259 coming already... just a little over half way done... I am going to start up musicmatch just to show in your face disgrace to apple iTurds... there it is, 3259... what a load.

Starting again... starting musicmatch... 9 minutes on iTunes... Going to musicstore on musicmatch... looking up billy joel... 3259 on iWish! Starting again... started downloading "for the longest time" on musicmatch... wow, for the longest time took the least amount of time, already done and playing... iPuke is telling me it's going to take 5 minutes again... this is getting stupid, I don't have time for this crap... It's been 15 minutes for... my one little download is overloading their servers!... 3 minutes it says, meantime "for the longest time" has been playing for 2 minutes and 45 seconds... for the longest time is done, and iSpit is at, you guessed it... error 3259!!

Starting again... local time is 7:51am, I don't know how busy their stupid servers could be right now... iTunes says 49 seconds, with 6.1mb of 6.4 downloaded in roughly 20 minutes... Finally done.

That's it folks, no more.

My operation system is Vista and recently I used the old version of Itunes and switched to the new one because of my operating system. I've recently downloaded 6 songs from the internet but it stopped and gave me an error and now when I try to download it says 'Itunes is temporarily unavailable please try again later' I've tried sending numerous emails to Itunes support but no answer can anyone out there please help me?

I replied to the stock form email I got back from support yesterday...naturally they implied that the problem was on my side, that their web site and servers were working normally.

I responded back and said...NO; it's not on my side. It's worked in the past and I've changed nothing on my end. I also asked if they had been here to the help forum to see for them selves just how many people here are having the same identical problem...same error.

Bottom line...I got a refund, and they were actually very nice about it to boot. I do appreciate that the iTunes Store did the right thing.

One would think someone from Apple would at least reply to say that
1) They are aware of the problem and are looking into it
2) They apologise for the disruption and frustration caused to their clients, and
3) Perhaps an estimate of when the service will be running correctly.

Surely it makes simple good business sense to try to appease your customers before they all dive out and go elsewhere? After all, we were merely endeavouring to use their own update, avail ourselves of a 'premium' service (the PLUS songs) and pay more for the privilege. C'mon Apple - your customers deserve better.

If you are using a dial-up connection, you might consider downloading your purchases over a broadband connection, if you have access to one.

Oh I love that one. Can you imagine sitting there for 12 hours at a time, with frequent disconnects, waiting for your 100+ songs to download?

No folks, do not adjust your computers. It isn't your version of iTunes, it isn't your Host file, it isn't even the way you are holding your mouth while you curse computers/the Internet/whatever. It is just sheer server overload and shortsightedness on Apple's part. Perhaps they never really believed this DRM-free stuff would take off. EMI must be having a party right now while Warner etc run around trying to work out what in the blazes just happened. In the meantime, prepare to suffer a bit longer. Been there, done that!

I am glad it all worked out. Over the years I have noted that nearly every computer problem I have had has never been quite what it seemed. Computers can drive you crazy. I remember coding a database in Access and getting a message that my coding was wrong. I looked at that code for hour upon hour and then, in desperation, checked the code in an unrelated place and found the error there. The message was wrong. It never ends.
