Scan result - I'd value advice from an expert!

Hi

The EtreCheck facility I've seen mentioned in these communities peeked my interest so I decided to run a scan. I confess that I've been just a little surprised by some of the findings, so I'd be most grateful if one of the gurus here would cast a weather eye over the result and advise accordingly. Here is the scan result:-

Hi John

I tried a couple more times to run the Etrecheck without success so restarted my machine with a brand new 'new user' and downloaded your software again.

The result? I was able to carry out another scan. The result is shown below. Bit defender is still appearing - I have no idea how to eradicate it from my machine. Any help will be much appreciated:

A most comprehensive reply, for which I thank you, Linc. 🙂

That's great for starting off on a brand new, clean, machine. Where, though, do I start with getting back to an 'as new' state with THIS machine?!!!

You'll see that in the recent new scan I've just posted in response to John (Etresoft) it appears that Bitdefender still has some presence on my computer.

Can you help me eradicate it?

Dec 3, 2014 3:18 PM in response to Linc Davis

Just in case you are interested .........

I went to the Bitdefender.com web site and discovered that an 'uninstall procedure' needs to be followed to remove all traces of the AV product from a Mac. I had simply dragged the application into the Trash. So I downloaded and ran the uninstaller scripts, then did another scan with Etrecheck. If you take a moment to look at the scan result below, you will note that there is now NO mention of Bitdefender! Perhaps I now need to do something with Oracle Java?!!!

I do not have those Java errors. An "invalid?" status mean that EtreCheck either cannot read the config files or cannot determine if they are valid.

I suggest doing the same thing with Java. Track down the official uninstaller or uninstallation instructions and remove it. Then, if you find that you still need it, download and install a fresh copy. Otherwise, monitor your machine's performance and see if it is now running better.
