Super Slow Powerbook After Yosemite

My 2010 Powerbook boots up slower each time (up to 10-15 minutes sometimes), and is overall slowed down after upgrading to Yosemite a couple of weeks ago.

Tabs open slowly, I get the spin wheel a lot, have to wait for apps to open, etc. I've also started getting error messages about plug-ins not working or scripts not running.

So far I have:

repaired permissions

reset the SMC

uninstalled printers

no improvement

Someone here on the forums suggested to first look at third party software that might not be compatible with Yosemite. Then update the software that is compatible. For example it looks like many of your internet plugins might be "old"."

I don't know how to do this though. Can someone help?

I had a recurring problem with a slow mid-2012 powerbook pro after installing Yosemite. I had three genius-bar appointments, clean installed all software several times, erased old stuff, fiddled with this and that and nothing improved. Despite the powerbook being under extended warranty and being told I had no hard disk issues I went ahead and self-installed an SSD and now everything is just perfect. I am sure that Yosemite places such demands on old mechanical hard drives and apple is either not aware or not telling.

Your conclusion does not follow from the evidence. Most likely, your hard drive was in the early stages of dying (3 years is about the average lifespan of modern hard drives), but was not yet failing hardware tests. Happens all the time.
