Safari update 8.0.1

Hey, I can't seem to update to the latest version of safari. I click on update in the store and it looks as if it's going to update, then it says it's installed but it hasn't. It then goes back to having the 'update' button again.

It's so great to share info-I've not done this before! I tried to install a Safari from an older backup that I had on my Gdrive. It installed but Safari won't open. I guess it's too old of a version? What's the best thing to do, wait until Apple releases a new Safari update? Thanks to all for sharing! 🙂

Agreed, dolo. When I have a problem with any Mac, I come here, search, and read. Usually my question has already been asked and answered by a Community Guru at a Level 6 or 7. (I am a level -2.) Often my search words must be tweaked to locate the thread that addresses my issue. Here is the only guidance I accept. Never ever download any Apple update anywhere, except at Apple. When Apple releases an update, I wait one or two weeks to see/read what happens. As for your Safari issue, I feel your pain.

What can an Apple user do when Safari will not work?

I rolled the dice and installed a different browser but was concerned always about security. Never saved a password; what a pain. Patiently, I will wait for the Safari update while I use 8.0 that magically began to work when I installed 10.10.1.

Sadly with that 8.0.1 not everyone was even safe only taking it from Apple! To have a Safari upgrade on their site that got pulled doesn't give me a good feeling especially coming after Yosemite. But with my lack of computer knowledge I can't figure out why it worked for some people and was a complete mess for others? And I haven't read anything about this situation from Apple at all!

I purchased it in Jan. of 2013. I think it was the last of the MacBook Pros that came out before Apple went to the Retina version. To again show my lack of knowledge of computers I just know what year I purchased it. I have no idea as to the Model year of the MacBook Pro itself. I do know it doesn't have the Retina.

The top left hand corner of your screen, click on the small black apple icon and on the drop down menu choose "About this Mac" when that window opens it should tell you the year of manufacturer. At least it does in Yosemite and I believe Mavericks as well, I have the Retina screen and it is classified as a Mid 2012 machine.

I think we all realize that Apple will eventually get their finger out and fix this issue, but thinking that doesn't really help those people who "lost" Safari and maybe it effected their professional life as well. Thankfully I never downloaded the update, and I alway have a secondary browser, so my concerns are over the reputation that Apple is rapidly losing. I used to love the fact that Macs just worked straight out of the box, but that doesn't seem to be happening now.

I do feel totally lame being on here, but thanks for your help. Mine is also mid 2012 so it was just before the Retina came out. I don't think Apple will ever be like it was under Steve. I so wanted an Apple for so long, but didn't have the money. By the time I had the money Steve had already died and I didn't stop to think what that would do to Apple as I said I'm totally lame!

Totally lame! That is how I feel though I have known Macs for over 25 years. The beauty of the Mac is its simplicity. The make, model, and year of a car is essential when there is a problem. Same is true for problems with your Mac. Get really friendly with the "About this Mac". That info is important when searching for information and asking a question. Safari may work for you and not others, depending upon your make, model, and year, I think.

I know I am dedicated to Apple. I know to wait a week or two before installing an update, and then I search this community and the web for reviews of the update before downloading it--and then, only download from the Apple website.

It was a bad, bad experience those weeks using Google's browser because I worried about security. I remember I had to deselect something in the preferences so the world would not be able to watch me through my camera, no thanks Google. Never saved a password, but I always felt vulnerable, and still do because who knows what Google has hidden somewhere on my computer.

Patience. The Safari update will come when it will come. Let Apple do it's work.

Some true frustration going on with this post. I'm lucky enough to still be on 8.0 and having zero issues. I'm actually not expecting to see 8.0.1 show back up, but just see 8.0.2 appear in the future. ***** to see that there was a serious glitch for some users who did get the update, though I guess that link posted above does seem to be a fixed version of 8.0.1 that has worked for users, I'm just waiting for when the AppStore shows the update down the line.

Must be something about the number:

8.0.1

That version of iOS got pulled as well! ha.

Not to belittle the issue of the browser disappearing but some of the frustration towards Apple as a whole has been a bit harsh. There have been HUGE changes lately, and with that comes some things that may not work perfectly. Yosemite is new, iOS8 is new so expecting a few updates to get some of the bugs worked out but finding the payoff to be worth it!

I don't believe any critique of Apple has been too harsh. Most of us bought our Macs because of the old statement of them just working, and for a long time we had superb service from the company. Of course they are working on the issue, or I would like to think that they are, but the fact that they screwed up the very application that allows people access to the internet and haven't come quickly back with a solution is worrying a tad. OK so you can access updates via the Mac App Store, but that isn't helpful to a person who is using his Mac in a professional manner and suddenly loses their browser. It is possible that there are people out there who don't have a secondary browser and currently have no way of downloading one, hence are kept out of the loop of this forum. We as consumers should be taking Apple to task over this, if we wanted slipshod updates and a buggy operating system we would have spent less money and gone to the dark side. OK rant over, and I do feel lucky that I didn't update to 8.0.1, neither Safari in Yosemite or the similar number in iOS.
