Safari update 8.0.1

Hey, I can't seem to update to the latest version of safari. I click on update in the store and it looks as if it's going to update, then it says it's installed but it hasn't. It then goes back to having the 'update' button again.

I just run the "mandatory" update and after the update was done Safari become unresponsive then a question mark replaced the icon on the dock - I looked for Safari on Spotlight Search and no trace of the program it just vanished. I restarted the computer no luck. I removed the question mark and now I am using Chrome. Safari is nowhere to be found. Help!

Yes unfortunately the only solution available so far is to reinstall OS X so here are the steps they told me to follow:

1. Go to Apple Menu chose Restart. When the grey screen appears hold down the "Command" + "R" keys simultaneously.

2. Select Reinstall OS X after you connect to Internet.

3. Follow onscreen instructions.

I just reinstalled mine (it took me about 45 minutes after being on chat with an Apple tech for 25 minutes). I know it is frustrating but this is all I know for now.

Apparently there were two updates that conflicted and corrupted Safari.

I am now using Safari again. I am not going to do any updates until this gets sorted out.

Hope this helps!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Select

/var/log install.log

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen. The contents of the log will appear on the right. Each log message begins with a timestamp. Select the messages from the time of the last installation or update attempt. If you're not sure when that was, click the Clear Display button in the toolbar of the Console window and then try the installation again. Select the new messages that appear. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

☞ If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

☞ When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

☞ Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. You may need to use a text editor with search and replace, such as TextEdit.

The exact same thing happened to me just now. Safari disappeared from my system. I restored the Safari.app package from a Time Machine backup and everything's fine now, although it's version 8.0 instead of 8.0.1, and the App Store doesn't show that there's an update available. I think they pulled it.

BTW, my other Mac (Mac mini) updated to 8.0.1 without issues.
