"Your Apple ID and phone number are now being used for iCloud on a new iPhone" Message?

Hi,

When I woke my Macbook Pro up this evening, I encountered the following message: "Your Apple ID and phone number are now being used for iCloud on a new iPhone." I don't utilize iCloud on any of my Apple devices (MacBook Pro running latest version of Yosemite, and iPhone 4 running iOS 7.1.2). I changed my Apple ID Password right after receiving the message just in case my information had somehow been comprised. Has anyone encountered this message before? Any thoughts on why it might be popping up out of the blue? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

PowerBook G4 (12-inch 1.5 GHz), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

I've had the same sort of thing happen to me, on my iPhone I just received a pop-up message stating "MacBook Pro is now using [my email address] for FaceTime". I have a MacBook Pro but that's not the name of it, and I hadn't used it for days when I got this message. Another strange thing though, is that a few hours before I got a Facebook message from a fake profile using the identity of someone I have a few friends in common with. I'd never seen this person's name before but when I clicked on the name in the message it brought me to his profile and as I saw we had friends in common I replied. Then when I checked back to see if he'd said anything else, Facebook had deleted the messages saying they were spam and the profile wasn't verified. I could no longer click on the profile either, however the message was still partially viewable in the messages panel and it was basically just saying to email them on some hotmail address. But strangely whilst the name remained the same the picture had changed to one of a woman and when I searched the name the real person whose name they had used had it's own separate profile which hadn't messaged me at all. Another thing is that i got this message in my regular messages not my 'other' inbox. So is it possible that by replying to this message on Facebook chat they somehow phished my other information?

Same happened to us today. Got a similar pop up in the OS. No other signs of phishing. Didn't come from an email. The OS just popped it up. Apple, you have a bug here. We didn't add any new device or log on to any device. Our message said on our main mac that it was a new iPad, but we haven't bought one. It said we could ignore the message which was strange.

I think this message is benign. It just happened to me and I didn't make any changes or get a new phone. I think it's just a bug on Apple's servers sending false positive notifications. To be sure, log into your iCloud.com and go to settings (https://www.icloud.com/#settings). There you can see a list of devices that are using your iCloud account. In my case I only have my apple TV, macbook pro, and the one iPhone, and no other unexpected devices.

I never used to get this message but have been getting it for a few weeks now. In my account there is just my one and only mac and my one and only phone. I am also getting messages that my id is wrong when I know it isn't so I have to keep changing it!!

Overtime it changes we go round with these pop up messages again!

Added to my phone not working on safari since 9.3 update I'm not very happy with Apple at present. Been with them less than a year on recommendation but had problems with three iPhone updates and now this. :-(

Good to hear that I'm not the only one getting those messages. It appears to be related the two-step identification setting I turned on a few days ago. Since then, I'm more worried than ever before than my iCloud security has been compromised. New MacBook, new iPhone and new iPad are popping up everywhere. I'm going to get this checked out at the Genius Bar.
