Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

I just received notice from Canon that they will not develop a printer driver for OS10.10.1 for their Pixma MX850 product. Does anyone have a recommendation? thx.

I tried installing my Canon Pixma MX850 printer/scanner on OS 10.10.1. The printer does not show in the printers & scanners "add" box. Contacted support who said that there was as of yet no driver made by Canon for this printer and suggested I contact Canon. I did, and their response is basically "sorry, but we're not going to make one..." Is there any way around this? Can I install drivers for earlier OS versions? Thx in advance!

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

I followed the link and downloaded the new driver, but I can't find it. Where did it go? When I look at "CanonIJPDE Bundle" the driver version is v11.7, added in 2014, rather than v10.84 that I presumably just downloaded. I followed Pahu's instructions for manually selecting the driver via "Add Printer", but whatever driver populated when I selected MX850 doesn't work. (I tried to print a document, the queue said "printer in use", but the job never printed....) Is there any way to make sure I have driver v10.84.11 in an accessible location?

By the way, here's what Canon said when I asked for a new driver: "I realize this does not help you, but Canon is not to blame for the fast computer world."

PaHu,

Thank you for all your help for getting the MX850 to work on OS X.

I followed all your directions and I am now able to see the printer installed with the 10.84.2.0 version of the driver you provided to be displayed in the Driver properties. Everything seems to work including Printing a Test page, seeing Supply Levels, or performing cleaning operations. However, I do get an error when I try to print from any other applications. See below the error that I get:

It seems that while it picks some of the 10.84.12 drivers, it then go gets some libraries from the 10.7.0 version, which is the version number that my CanonJPDE.bundle file shows despite deleting the file and trying to re-install the correct version by re-running the 10.84 installation program.

Any thoughts on how to fix this.

Many Thanks!

Don't be concerned about the different version number being shown. This is the version of the process Raster2CanonIJ, rather than the driver version.

Looking at the crash log I would recommend you remove the Canon printer files from your Mac and then run the v10.84 driver installer again.

First step is to open Printers & Scanners and remove the current MX850. Then unplug the MX850 USB cable to the Mac.

Then you need to open Finder and select Go > Go to Folder. Then copy the following line and paste it into the Go field and then press the Go button.

/Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter

This will show you the contents of the Canon BJPrinter folder. Select all the folders here and trash them.

Now restart your Mac and when you have logged back in, run the v10.84 driver installer again. When that has completed you can reconnect the model USB cable and add the printer via Printers & Scanners. Now see if you can print without the error.

If for some reason the Canon driver does not work then there is an alternate driver package known as Gutenprint. With this package installed you can then add the printer using the Gutenprint Canon MX850 driver.

I just received notice from Canon that they will not develop a printer driver for OS10.10.1 for their Pixma MX850 product. Does anyone have a recommendation? thx.
