Is there a setting to disable power button hang up?

I sometime talk in bed or am busy cooking and doing chore and dont want to wear my earbuds every time I want to lock the screen on my phone. Is there any setting I can use or find that allows me to disable this annoying feature that hangs up my phone when I am in a normal non speaker and non headset call?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1.1

I strongly agree... apple tent to get worse with ever new silly feature. No major help since 10 years ago but new annoying features that we can not reverse. It's smart of apple if it gives the option to the customer.

Another ailly thing no true IT or customer service replies ..most are guests or volunteers.. which is cheap and sick on the behalf of apple.

I think I can add something productive to this conversation. I also appreciate being able to put the display to sleep while on a call when I'm using speakerphone and holding the phone away from my ear. This is actually a feature I was accustomed to using when I had an Android. I just switched to the iPhone and only noticed the issue after I kept hanging up accidentally while on a conference call. It actually took me a while to figure out what was going on because so used to being able to do that with my previous phone. I will try the workaround and hopefully change my habits to get the same result; however, I would appreciate a setting that would allow for the alternate functionality of the power button.

Maybe I'm missing something. I am at the most current version of iOS, but I also have been using this functionality at prior versions for the last few years, and I never have a problem with hangups. I have been on iOS 7, 8, and now 9, with iPhone 4S, 5S, and now 6 Plus.

If I am using the phone, for example with speaker, and WITHOUT any headphones plugged in, and I press the power button, my screen locks, but the phone call is still working; it does not hangup... I can still hear the call on speaker. You are saying that your phone hangs up? Am I the only on blessed this way? I just tested it and it works.

I have this problem, currently, on my iphone 5. Though this may not be of great help to you now, I have just found a way for the power button not to hang up a call. All you must do is put your call on speaker, lock the screen, unlock it and take them off speaker, then press the home button to go to your lock screen. At that point you can lock your screen without it hanging up. May not work for everyone but it worked for me.

Oh! So maybe the original poster DIDN'T have the call on speaker? If I'm going to lock the screen cause a phone call is running without headphones, I always have it on speaker, which is why I didn't get the problem.

Yes, just tested it... it does hang up with the lock screen button if the call is not on speaker, by default, on my phone. Thanks for the possible workaround, I might test that later, although I don't personally ever lock the screen without either speaker or headphones.
