Iphone iOS 8.1.2 battery drain remains

Hi!

As I have been seeking for a solution to my iPhone 5s battery drain problem after iOS 8 install, I have to note that today, after all of the updates the battery life remains non existent.

Battery drain in only half a day without light use, everything turned off, and not a single app installed. And the most surprising part that battery drains overnight, without use, on a airplane mode.

In the battery usage window the things I see:

  1. 65 % Phone (low signal)
  2. 17 % Home & Lock Screen
  3. 14 % Settings
  4. 4 % Messages

What has been done?

  • Did many fresh installs of software from update (itunes and iCloud)
  • Fresh install setting as new phone
  • Fresh install, setting as a new phone and creating new apple id;
  • Settings are set up to save every percent of the battery (including no WIFI, and no cellular data). So at this point my iphone is just a phone to ring.

Did not see any improvement over the updates iOS 8.0.2, iOS 8.1.1

I would be so appreciative for your further support in solving this question.

your first line states that u updated from 8.1.1 to 8.1.2 and u had problem. but later you have mentioned that you upgraded to 8.1.2 and it sort of solved the problem. very confusing. I have problem since 8.0.2, i tried every update until 8.1.2.

can any one help me with rollback to original version. I hear from my friends that the very first version though buggy did not drain the battery......

what i did to solve the problem is get rid of the iphone 5s and i will sell it when possibly version 8.2 will solve the issue. In the meantime i bought th 6 plus and it came with 8.02 .....and now i learned the lesson. Do not upgrade versions until you are sure and have researched the forums. I do not trust apple anymore. I stay cause i am used to it, but their ios has become a nightmare. What killed nokia was the hardware, what will kill apple will be the software.

There is two ways to solve this problem:

1. Apple must read this thread & fix the problem

2. Till #1 is not done, we must Downgrade iOS to 8.1 via iTunes (search in internet how to do it) - it's not difficult

There is no necessary functions added in 8.1.1 & 8.1.2, so we can freely use 8.1 (as I do)

How to Downgrade iOS 8.1.1 to iOS 8.1 on iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

-Connect the device running iOS 8.1.1 to the computer.

-Open iTunes and choose the iOS device, which can be found to the left of iTunes Store button or at the top right corner.

-Press and hold the Alt or Option key in Mac or Shift key in Windows and then click Restore iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch button in iTunes.

-(Alternatively, one may also use the Check for Update option instead of direct restore, though Restoring is the recommended option to avoid data issues).

-Now you will be prompted to disable Find My iPhone option if it is enabled, before restoring the device.

-Select the IPSW file you had downloaded earlier.

-iTunes will notify that it will erase and restore your device to iOS 8.1 and then verify the restored files with Apple.

-Click Restore and iTunes should now restore your iOS device to iOS 8.1.

-After a restore, the iOS device will restart. You will now see "Slide to set up" message on screen. -Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant to complete the downgrade process.

-Finally, you can restore your device from a backup if required.

As far as I am aware, we are not able to downgrade to iOS 8.1 , because Apple has signed that ipsw .

As for now, we can downgrade to the latest 8.1.1 (but maybe not for long, until Apple signs that ipsw too).

However, iOS 8.1.1 has the same battery issue as 8.1.2 , for me.

I tried restoring to both of these versions, making a 'fresh' restore, using the iphone as 'new'. Battery is still draining very very fast.

I don't have any hardware problems, as Apple verified via diagnostic tests.

I have never had issues with my battery until I upgraded to the latest iOS. Worst decision of my life.

Now what? I should carry my charger everywhere? I have to charge my iphone at least 2-3 times daily now.

And if the next iOS update doesn't solve my issue, what then? Can I trash my phone then? Because it's almost useless.

Apple, please fix this as soon as possible.

tldr; Check the secd process on your Mac. If it is consuming greater than 50MB of memory...turn off Keychain sync on ALL your devices.

The Full Story

The last few months I've had instances where my iPhone would start getting really hot in my pocket, and the battery would drain at 3x the speed. After much research I also discovered that a process on my Mac (secd) had a vicious memory leak and that single process was consuming 13GB of memory and paging thousands of console messages. After discovering that the process was related to Keychain sync, I disabled keychain sync across all 5 of my devices. Immediately, the battery life on my iPhone was restored to normal.

After I reenabled Keychain sync across all my devices, everything would run fine for a while, but after a few weeks, the problem would resurface. And I would repeat the process of turning it off on all my devices, to effectively reset the iCloud keychain data.

Anyway, Apple does need to fix this, as it affects performance on both OSX and iOS.

Have tried everything... Nothing works for my 5S . Battery still drains very fast, since the update.

- updated and set the iphone as new

- made new apple id / icloud account

- tried rolling back to 8.1.1

Nothing fixes my issue.

Have talked to chat support, they verified my phone diagnostics, said nothing seems broken (hardware-side).

Have talked to phone support in USA, their hands are tied , unfortunately. They offered a replacement, IF I could manage to get to an Apple Service there. But I'm living in Romania (Eastern Europe) and there are no Apple Services in my country. So basically, I can't do anything. Anything at all.

My only fix would be to wait for the next iOS update and maybe, MAYBE the issue will disappear. This is unacceptable. I'm sorry.

I don't blame anyone from the Support, since they were sincere and really tried to help me. The problem is from the root of Apple company. They need to consider those, like me, who live in 'remote' parts of the world.

There are Apple Resellers in my country but no Services. That's not good.

You disappointed me, Apple..

Yesterday I installed 8.1.2 on my iPhone 6 Plus. Before the update, it was connected to the wall and battery indicator was at 100%.

After the update, the battery indicated 99% even though the phone was plugged in throughout the update.

So I reset network settings. Nada. Ten minutes later, after absolutely no activity on my part, battery read 94%. This was so not like my experience with this new phone, and I was really unhappy. Reset network settings again. Forced a quit. Didn't help. Kept charging the phone. Battery indicator went to 97% and stayed there, wouldn't go up to 100%. I was very unhappy.

Then I took a look at the list of piggy apps. Mail was at the top. So I went into the Mail, Contacts, Calendars setting > Fetch New Data and turned off Push, then set Fetch to Every 30 Minutes.

In about five minutes, the battery indicator was at 100% and I haven't had any problems or noticed any battery drain. I have over 170 apps, use my phone a lot, and at the end of the day, it was at 75%, so changing my Mail settings seems to have solved my battery drain. I hope it works for you.

Me and some Friends have the same issue, when we update from 8.1.1 to 8.1.2 the battery of iPhone Drain and the temperatura of the cellphone up, some times i have to take Out of my pocket, it is very sad because Apple does not have a serious quality control for updates, It only remains to wait for an early solution (another update 😟 ) and pray for an update that doesn't make that my iPhone explote in my face.
