Since the primary subject of this thread is the iPhone 4 and your problem is with the iPhone 4s, you really should start your own thread rather then attempting to highjack this one.

I myself am in the same situation. Without getting a phone more updated with what Apple has been able to design and advance in with their products, we have to stick with what we are only provided.

I don't know if it would help any but think of it like this...

-They made the iPhone 4, they had great ideas and intentions for it too at the time.
-Then the 5, 6, 7 models come out afterwards and just like the 4, they each had even better features and advanced uses than their previous model. So to be able to use those new features, they have to design and perfect a software specifically for certain things that have progressed over time since the 4.

It's all a bit confusing at first, but once more research is done into the newer products and then compared to the older products, then you'll see why certain updates are only what they can be fed, to an iPhone. Literally.
