I'm sorry to let you know iPhones 4 are not eligible to upgrade to iOS 8.

Perhaps you've figured it out by now, but in case you haven't: Go to Settings > General > Software Update. The phone will search for a newer iOS version than the one currently running and give you an option to download if it isn't up to date. If your phone is an iPhone 4, the iOS will be version 7.1.2.
