Seriously? You read nothing from the thread you posted in?
You cannot update an iPhone 4 beyond iOS 7.1.2
You cannot update to iOS 8
You cannot update to iOS 9
You cannot update to iOS 10
You cannot update to iOS 11
You cannot update to any iOS version after 7.1.2
Hopefully, that should clear up some things
I have. Durian pudding in Bangkok, and fresh durian from a street vendor in Hong Kong. It is really delicious.
We in the West have foods with similar characteristics - there are some cheeses that you can't get near, but that taste very good.
Do you, for some reason think your wish to do so is different than the other 10,000 people in this thread? Do you have a special model of iPhone 4? Did you read any of the previous posts in this thread? Did you read just one of the posts in thsi thread?

Please, tell me why you did not read the thread before posting? You obviously have sufficient reading, writing and comprehension skills in English to figure out how to post here. Why can you not use those same abilities to read the thread? I'm extremely curious.
Hi, this one very busy thread; so, d'you guys get points (and\or cash rewards) for answering this - and all t'other, I s'pose - questions, in this very interesting conversation ?
I'll not ask quite the same query, but please don't accuse me of hijacking the previous fifty plus pages (50 increasingly odd ways of saying 'no' and\or 'it is physically not possible' which comprises this thread), as I feel that I now have a fairly good handle on the answer - even though the casual inclusion of those 'Paw-Paw's did, I have to admit, cause me a momentary level of uncertainty, as I realised the cupboard was temporarily quite bare, before I detected the slight aroma of humour, either intentional or accidental!
So, my query is simply this: I am presently the reasonably content owner of an iPhone 4 (Model 'MC603B/A') purchased, new, in December 2010 - if my memory is correct! I say 'reasonably' as, like many thousands of other owners, I find myself being excluded from more and more products on, purely as an example, the App Store - simply as developers are, quite understandably, now only writing for the later iOS versions. I do believe, should my memory still remain sound in that area of my knowledge - and here there comes the confession, as one has now to admit to not having thoroughly read each and every prior page - this being due, in main, to just the one simple fact: that as the total number of my years continues to increase, so that brain's capacity to retain an unlimited volume of crap, (perhaps within it's equivalent to the Micro$oft 'Trash' can) issadly shrinking - that this point may have been mentioned earlier, by a previous correspondent. In general the answer to my query was equally easy: "Buy the latest model. (You stoopid tight-wad!)" OK, so those words in the brackets are my own ... but they were implied, even if they were not actually uttered - and on one level one can understand the growing, yet sometime unexpressed, frustration behind them.
So let me change my query slightly: I am presently the reasonably content owner of an iPhone 4 (Model 'MC603B/A') purchased, new, in December 2010 - if my memory is correct! I say 'reasonably' as, like many thousands of other owners, I find myself being excluded from more and more products on, purely as an example, the App Store - simply as developers are, quite understandably, now only writing for the later iOS versions.
As a pensioner on a fixed, restricted budget, I have to accept this precludes my purchase of the latest model iPhone, the version currently being swiftly opened, across the developed world, by eager executives desperate for the very latest type available and with the cash or expense accounts available to pay for the privilege of owning one, yet I need to climb over the restrictions of iOS 7 I acknowledge the fact that my trusted iPhone 4 cannot be updated further to cope, but I am rather less than keen about having to learn how to operate a competitor's model or having to repurchase all my favourite 'Apps' once more ... but ... I am also concerned that the basic problem of incompatability may well arise again in a further 12 - 18 months time. I am also under no illusions that I would be able to purchase a brand new iPhone!.
So, in your collective opinion(s) what (if any ...) iPhone should be my next personal >Best Buy< ?
Given the information that you have provided, and the fact that you make it a strong point to indicate that you are a pensioner on a fixed income, I suggest you would have to determine how much you are willing to spend on a phone. That decision is going to have to be made on what apps you find important to use, how much space you need to have on the phone to handle your needs, and how much can you spend. You can contact your carrier to see if they have any deals, and Apple does provide some deals on refurbished phones. Refurbished iPhone - Apple These are phones that have been factory refurbished and carry a warranty. If Apple does not suit your ability, you can see if any other smartphone fits your budget, however it would require the purchase of apps in another system.
I'd say anything older than a 5s is out.
You could as mentioned get a Refurbished model from Apple, and pay for it in installments if your fixed budget allows for monthly payments for it.
Apple currently has refurbished iPhone 6s in Gold for $439. And you can get Special financing.
Apple Financing with Barclaycard Credit Card - Apple
Refurbished iPhone 6s 128GB - Gold - Apple
Beyond that if you plan on buying pre-owned for somewhere else, make sure the iPhone is actually unlocked, and can be used before handing over money.
Make sure the steps here were followed when buying second hand:

Find someone who can read, have them review this thread, then have them give the answer to your question. After 52 pages in this thread, I don’t think we can offer anything that hasn’t already been said.
Thank you, Phil(?), lots of very useful links there and I really appreciated you taking the time to lay it all out for me; I guess the only thing I have to consider now is whether updates for an iPhone 5 will disappear up the funnel in a puff of white smoke, before — or after — I do ! ..... Cheers !
Not iPhone 5, MiddleDogWatch, iPhone 5s or higher. iPhone 5 cannot run iOS 11. If you could go for the iPhone 6 as Phil has laid out, you probably are going to see support and updates longer than if you go with an iPhone 5s. The older the device, the sooner it will fall off of the upgrade path.
Cheers,
GB
The iPhone 5 has already stopped receiving updates. It is unable to update to iOS 11.
As I said nothing older than a 5s. As Gail points out, preferably a 6 or newer to get at least a couple more years of support and updates.

Yes. Why they post such junk here I don't understand.
I think there's a point you can get early on for posting a picture. As to why they're so often sideways, that is a mystery to me.

Can you explain to me why you made that post? Did you read any of this thread before you posted? Did you read at least the "Apple Recommended" answer before posting?
It is amazing there are 57 pages in this thread, and the answer is contained in the very first reply. The first 4 replies are also marked Helpful or Apple Recommended, and provide ample detail to answer any the question. The simple act of opening this thread will show the correct answer without even having to scroll! When will people learn to read!!!!
I used to think the problem was with people searching in Google and just seeing the question. I just did a test search. You can easily see the answer. And, clicking on the link brings you to the first page of the thread, normal view.
If you search the forums, you're also brought to the first page with the marked answer.
I can think of no logical explanation for the repeated identical questions.

I can provide an answer to that, but it wouldn't be politically correct. 😝
But it would probably be somewhat amusing. Seriously, though, I really want to understand this behavior. I don't think one even gets any of those beginner points for replying to a question. But, as the people who ask the question for the 89th time almost never come back, I'm fated not to know.
