Seriously? You read nothing from the thread you posted in?

You cannot update an iPhone 4 beyond iOS 7.1.2

You cannot update to iOS 8

You cannot update to iOS 9

You cannot update to iOS 10

You cannot update to iOS 11

You cannot update to any iOS version after 7.1.2

Hopefully, that should clear up some things

I m agree with u I have also same problem I am from India and I only want to know that if ios 8 or 9 is not compatible in iphone 4 then when we download apps like Facebook from App Store they show me to upgrade your phone upto ios 8 then what we do I know I am not so much educated then peoples who are working in Apple who arrange all the things so pls help me I am also want to become an software engineer but these things discourage me pls send mail when u will find solution

You may be able to get compatible versions of Apps. In iTunes on your computer, download the App you want a compatible version for using the same Apple Id that the iPhone has for the App Store. For Paid Apps its best to consult with the App maker to make sure there is a compatible App. With the App Downloaded to iTunes on a computer you can go into The App Store App on your iPad, Tap on Purchased, and Look for the App there. Tap on it to begin the download. It will likely say its not compatible, but if there is a compatible version it will offer to download it.

Install an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support

Note that this option will likely stop working in the near future.

First, you get a banana, a mango and a hedgehog. Put them in a cardboard box in a very dark place with a temperature no higher than 288.706 degrees Kelvin. Leave them there until the next full moon. Clean up the mess left by the rotting fruit and the hedgehog chewing its way out of the box. Go look for the hedgehog. When you're done, go to your local Apple Store and buy a new iPhone that supports a more recent version of iOS.

Hi, this one very busy thread; so, d'you guys get points (and\or cash rewards) for answering this - and all t'other, I s'pose - questions, in this very interesting conversation ?

I'll not ask quite the same query, but please don't accuse me of hijacking the previous fifty plus pages (50 increasingly odd ways of saying 'no' and\or 'it is physically not possible' which comprises this thread), as I feel that I now have a fairly good handle on the answer - even though the casual inclusion of those 'Paw-Paw's did, I have to admit, cause me a momentary level of uncertainty, as I realised the cupboard was temporarily quite bare, before I detected the slight aroma of humour, either intentional or accidental!

So, my query is simply this: I am presently the reasonably content owner of an iPhone 4 (Model 'MC603B/A') purchased, new, in December 2010 - if my memory is correct! I say 'reasonably' as, like many thousands of other owners, I find myself being excluded from more and more products on, purely as an example, the App Store - simply as developers are, quite understandably, now only writing for the later iOS versions. I do believe, should my memory still remain sound in that area of my knowledge - and here there comes the confession, as one has now to admit to not having thoroughly read each and every prior page - this being due, in main, to just the one simple fact: that as the total number of my years continues to increase, so that brain's capacity to retain an unlimited volume of crap, (perhaps within it's equivalent to the Micro$oft 'Trash' can) issadly shrinking - that this point may have been mentioned earlier, by a previous correspondent. In general the answer to my query was equally easy: "Buy the latest model. (You stoopid tight-wad!)" OK, so those words in the brackets are my own ... but they were implied, even if they were not actually uttered - and on one level one can understand the growing, yet sometime unexpressed, frustration behind them.

So let me change my query slightly: I am presently the reasonably content owner of an iPhone 4 (Model 'MC603B/A') purchased, new, in December 2010 - if my memory is correct! I say 'reasonably' as, like many thousands of other owners, I find myself being excluded from more and more products on, purely as an example, the App Store - simply as developers are, quite understandably, now only writing for the later iOS versions.

As a pensioner on a fixed, restricted budget, I have to accept this precludes my purchase of the latest model iPhone, the version currently being swiftly opened, across the developed world, by eager executives desperate for the very latest type available and with the cash or expense accounts available to pay for the privilege of owning one, yet I need to climb over the restrictions of iOS 7 I acknowledge the fact that my trusted iPhone 4 cannot be updated further to cope, but I am rather less than keen about having to learn how to operate a competitor's model or having to repurchase all my favourite 'Apps' once more ... but ... I am also concerned that the basic problem of incompatability may well arise again in a further 12 - 18 months time. I am also under no illusions that I would be able to purchase a brand new iPhone!.

So, in your collective opinion(s) what (if any ...) iPhone should be my next personal >Best Buy< ?

Given the information that you have provided, and the fact that you make it a strong point to indicate that you are a pensioner on a fixed income, I suggest you would have to determine how much you are willing to spend on a phone. That decision is going to have to be made on what apps you find important to use, how much space you need to have on the phone to handle your needs, and how much can you spend. You can contact your carrier to see if they have any deals, and Apple does provide some deals on refurbished phones. Refurbished iPhone - Apple These are phones that have been factory refurbished and carry a warranty. If Apple does not suit your ability, you can see if any other smartphone fits your budget, however it would require the purchase of apps in another system.
