Green dots when taking pictures on iPhone 6+

Here is the picture where the problem is most obvious:

As you can see, there are 5 green dots in the picture. I understand that when taking direct pictures of a sundown etc., that there might be some lens flare in the picture, but these dots are caused by the lights of a CHRISTMAS TREE! (How many people are going be taking pictures of their Christmas tree in the coming few weeks..?) Also, no matter how I positioned my camera, the dots still continued to show in other pictures as well, forcing me to delete them.


What are my options here? Buy Photoshop and edit the dots out and accept that a 899€ phone has a bunch of camera issues, or is it possible that apple could at some point fix these lens flare issues in an update?

I just upgraded from an iphone 4 to a 6+. I never had a problem with the green dot showing up on the iphone 4 pictures but every shot I take of the sunset (which I do frequently because I love sunset pictures over the water) has a green dot in it. Can this be fixed? Is there something I can do differently in settings to make it go away? Very disappointing!
