App store not downloading at 10.6.8

Hi,

I installed 10.6.4 and then updated it to 10.6.8 - the app store would not download any apps - this applies to the purchased apps, as well as new ones etc. After I press the download or install button nothing happens - no error notifications etc... the computer and the App Store app does not freeze I have tried following options, but none of those helped helped:

- Clicked on the "Reload Page" in the App Store

- reset payment detail and address in the account settings

- checked for unfinished downloads in the App Store - it says all purchased apps are downloaded...

- signed out and signed in the App Store app

- tried to switch from my App Store - which is German - to the US store and then back...

- installed the 10.6.8 combo update.

- removed the App Store app and then did the 10.6.8 combo update

- reset the memory (when you hold the option+apple button+P+R while restarting the computer)

- installed the Java updates as well as iTunes updates

- erased the partition and reinstalled the 10.6.4, then tried 10.6.6 combo, 10.6.7 combo and as I said 10.6.8 combo updates - every time trying out the app store with every single version

- tried to upgrade to Yosemite via the "updates" section in the Mac App Store, but nothing happens after I press the download button either

My Mac 21,5" is iMac11,2 Intel Core i3 3.06 GHz 4 GB

My goal is actually to download the Lion (or Maverics) from the App Store and install it - I purchased it a while ago and then upgraded to Maverics and recently to Yosemite - the later made me unhappy and I cleaned my Mac, erased the partition and installed the 10.6.4 from the OS X install CD which came with my Mac.

All the apps I ever purchased are listed in the "Purchases" section of the App Store, including the Lion and Maverics, so the App Store works as such, but as I described it would not let me download anything....

When you download 10.6.8, there are still some additional software updates that need to be made, particularly Safari. The mac app store is just an app client that uses safari to download of your content in the background. Make sure to update your Safari to the latest version your OS allows, you can do this by going to Software updates under the Apple icon on the left hand corner of your top toolbar and selecting "Show Details" after it finds that updates are needed. Select just Safari from the drop down menu. Your computer will prompt the download and restart. Boot up the app store after that and it should work :)

Thanks to cpark.me about updating Safari to the latest version, resolved my problem of not being able to restore an older imac from snow leopard to el capitan. As soon as I updated Safari, everything showed up in the App Store. Note I spent 2 hrs with Apple Support and their technical guru's input and they gave up and stated that I may have a hardware problem. Thanks Again cpark.me.

At the risk of raising hackles somewhere, I see no option but to reinstall OSX 10.6 via the disk. As you will know, this will bring you to 10.6.3 and from there you will need to update per software update and eventually on through via the 10.6.8 Combo updater.

Yes I know you have been there but I see no reason why you have the problems you outline. My App store has always worked perfectly after having originally followed the route I suggested.

Guys, I will definitely try to reinstall the whole stuff once again - my recovery cd is 10.6.4 and then upgrade to 10.6.6. and if this does not help - to 10.6.7 and consequently to 10.6.8, but I am afraid this will not help.

I have now tried following stuff suggested by somebody in a neighbor thread here - I ran the system in a safe mode - did not help, I then set up the second admin account and tried the App Store from out there - did not help.

I tried out the Yosemite download links on the right hand bar in the App Store under "Categories" and under "Free" - did not help.

I connected to my router via wifi (instead of cable as normally) - this did not help.

I switched wifi off and connected to the interned via bluetooth to the hotspot I hosted on my cell phone (cellular connection to the internet) - so a totally different network did not help either...

Some other things to try…

Reboot, Open /Applications/Utilities/Console & look at the 'all messages' section.

Try the App Store to see if any messages appear as the download or purchase attempt fails.

The App Store has it's own log under /var/log/appstore.log see if this logs any useful messages when the failure occurs. NOTE: You will need to be logged in as an admin to read this file in Console.

Open up System Preferences > Network. Select the network connection you are using, edit the DNS server setting (make a note of the existing value if one is set). Change it to '8.8.8.8' or '8.8.4.4' (without quotes). This is Google's public DNS.

Keep an eye on the logs as you try each test, saving relevant parts with a note on the test.

Retry the store, consider trying another DNS service to retest, perhaps https://www.opendns.com.

Reboot's shouldn't be required, but it can't hurt between tests.
