Airport problems after update

I have been using my 20" Intel iMac for a few months now and have had no problems getting the built-in airport device to connect to my wireless home network. Yesterday, I downloaded and installed the new airport system update, and ever since I've been having big trouble. It doesn't show any available network connection at all (and I know my wireles network is working because my laptop can still connect). If I restart the computer, sometimes it will find my network and sign on, but then it drops the connection after just a few minutes and goes back to saying it can't detect any available networks. Has anyone else had any problems since the new update? Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks.

Hi Bryan - sorry did not checked, but I did a lot of automatic recommended updates when I switched on the computer first time. I just bought it last week from Fnac and it seems it needed all sort of updates, including a Firmware one and yes, the 10.4.8, which is the one I am using now.

Before it did the automatic updates we were toying with it for a good 6 hours and the Airport was reliable and full power from the very beginning. Now it is always 3 bars. The connection drops quite often to be funny - specially since I use the Internet for my work a good 12 hours per day.

Installing again the Intel Combo 10.4.8 update seems to have improved it. Getting rid of DHCP and using manual settings too. Also, hidding the wireless network broadcast. None of the other features seems to have helped. Now its running stable since yesterday morning when I installed the Intel Combo.

Oh, also... the powerbook network speed is measured to 2.200 and the iMac goes to a mere 600. I have 3 megabytes ADSL connection.

Hope that helps!

Hi Guys.

PARALLELS might be the culprit!

I travel alot and had troubles connecting to various networks. Also surfing was very slow. At my 2MB homenetwork I could only get 1/10 the speed on my Dual Core2 MB compared to my daughters Core Dual MB.

An Apple rep found some info about Parallels destroying the networkcapability. I deactivated the 2 Parallels network configurations in Systemprefs -> Network. and suddenly speed was better - but not at max. A fuld archive and install solved the rest.

Reinstalling Parallels recreated the problem and deactivating Parallels network configurations again solved the problem.

Let me hear your experiences!

Best regds

Jesper
