I don't understand how so many people have reported a battery problem with their phone and yet we are still being told we need to replace our battery. I am not eligible for the battery replacement. And I refuse to pay for new battery after a year & a half. I had my phone for a year & a half when the battery went haywire (right after updating to version 8.1.2). I've turned everything off, restored the phone as new and the only way to get my phone to last thru a day of work is to put it down and not use it! My iPhone 4 is now 4 years old with the original battery and it will last all day. What good is it to have a phone with features that you can't even use? I am getting really frustrated. I don't want to go to the Genius Bar. Did that when I first got my phone. They told me nothing was wrong with my phone even though I have the worst signal strength. Something that my iPhone 4 never had a problem with. I know that plays a part in battery usage, but it has gotten worse. I've watched all the keynotes about how much better these phones are and all the great features they have. But what good is all of that if you can't use any of those features. If I wanted to have just a phone, I would go back to a simple flip phone. I became an Apple believer with my iPhone 4, but I am starting to doubt Apple with my iPhone 5. I really wish Apple would help with this.

I got the same issue with my iPhone 5s 16 GB, received as a gift for my birthday last summer (so, still in warranty). I had a previous model, iPhone 5 which worked wonderful, and stayed in stand by almost 4 days! But with this new one, 5s, after update to IOS 8.1.2 it does not stay in stand by mode more than 14 hours. It is awful, since I need the phone to stay in this feature at least as advertised in specifications, respective 250 hours. When someone by something from apple, the product must comply with the characteristics provided by the producer! This is a problem of trust with or within apple from now on. What's wrong with apple?

More than that, I went with the phone to a authorised service by apple in my country, and guess what? They told me the error or defect does not manifest...even they kept the phone just two days an a half in service. They said they have specific test that suggests there is no issue with the battery autonomy. But this is not a battery issue is a software one!!!

And even more, How can you test the product for stand by mode in less than 250 hours as specified in characteristic?

After all, then they told me to call myself apple and discuss with them the issue. Therefore, I tried to do that however the robot directed me to contact my mobile service provider, therefore a dead end. I did not give it up, and I work around this other apple communication gap, and got in contact with someone from laptops department. I explained to him my issue, and the fact I cannot go to my service provider because the iPhone is a gift therefore not bought through a service provider, and in that case his recommendation was to send it back to a friend in USA or somewhere in Europe IOT change it by him through an Apple retailer or original store.

I got back to the authorised service by apple and ask them why they cannot send my phone for test or replacement directly to apple. Their answer was that it has to be an agreement between apple and me personally IOT to allow them to do that!?! That's amassing... considering the fact that I cannot even get in contact with someone from apple responsible directly for iPhones issues!

That's a shame how apple treat in this way its costumers in country that they have not a direct retailer or original store! Even when the product is still in warranty status!!

So, long talk for nothing... Anyway, is there anyone that can help me at least to get back to IOS 7, respective delete IOS 8.1.2 from my phone forever and get back to stand by for more than 24 hours?

I tried all the advices saw here to stop working that or modify the other, however nothing works for my iPhone!...

Good news for me! Because I still had my iPhone in warranty, I got in contact with apple support, and based on my struggle with the service in my country I got a case number and an opportunity to have the iPhone sent to apple in order to be checked, and eventually replaced with a new one!

It is great, and now I am looking forward to receive my replaced iPhone 5s... and see if the problem is finally solved!

I would consider that however has issues with their apple to try and get in contact with apple support and try to solve the issue, or at least make them directly aware that something urgent needs to be done!

Now I am looking forward to receive the new device, and I will keep my finger crossed for the future... I may not go for any IOS updates until it will be proved by the apple community that it works fine and therefore deserves a try!

Same for my case, I went to Apple Store today, they did a full system recovery for me using their Macbook,

after that we tested the phone together for about 15 minutes with everything turned off,

and the same problem persists, then they offered me a free exchange to another new unit.

Now they have my phone back and I wish their engineers will take a deep look into it and find out the root cause.

I'm evaluating the new unit tonight.

I've already noted all the issues with my iPhone 5 and the battery draining too fast. this past weekend had to restore my iPad 4. Apps weren't working correctly. Since restoring, my battery is drainning on this as well. It's only 1 year old. It can either be IOS 8.1.2 or defective batteries. Either way, this is not right. Im just out of warranty on the iPad. if it is the battery, I should not have a bad battery after one year of use. Especially after spending $600.00 on this. If it is the IOS, then Apple needs to fix this and quit making excuses. Once again, I have restored to new. Turned off location, app refresh and anything else that could possibly drain the battery. We shouldn't have to turn off all features in order to prevent battery drain. you put the features in for a reason! for people to use. They are useless if you can't use them. Which then makes the iPhone and iPad useless as well. The battery drained 15% percent today within 4 hours of just sitting on a table In sleep mode. How is that possible? I charged it overnight while turned off. According to my usage count it's been on Standay for over one day and in use for over 13 hours. So it believes it was never fully charged. I'm about to jump ship Apple. im starting to feel duped in my purchase of your products! I certainly cannot afford a new iPhone or iPad or even a battery replacement right now. I wish you would pleas help with this.

Hi @ all,

i`am from Germany and i have the same problem. Nothing works, airplane mode, etc. Yesterday i put the device on 100% and set on airplane mode. 22.54 hrs and i awake at 6.25 am, the battery shows 62%. In airplane mode!!

The Battery Use shows: 13 min in use, Standby 7 hrs

13 min use 40% of battery?

And i dont use the phone. Why did the device show 13 min of use?

I have a chat with apple and they say, that my battery is good.

I think too, that it was a problem of 8.1.2

I will contact apple chat again today.

Sorry for my bad english :-(

I have just updated my 6+ to IOS 8.1.2 and was shocked that the battery seems to be draining by the minute! It used to run for 3-4 days!

I disabled diagnostics sending and it seems to have stopped the drain. Try it. Possibly at the start of an update, Apple gathers a lot of diagnostics for their R&D.

Goto General->Privacy->Location Services->System Services and try turn off the bits under Product Improvement. (I turn off as much as possible anyway).

WWhat the **** is going on with my **** phone! I'm so ****** with this brand at this point. Seems to me this is more like sabotage. applea releases new update to crash all prior phones to get new revenue. Well screw that! I paid for my phone and I shouldn't have to worry about "NEW" updates screwing up my lifestyle. Thesea updates are suppose to improve ones confidence in the product not destroy all hopes or wants within. Apple your totally screwing yourselves over.

I had the same problem. Huge battery drain after updating to 8.1.2. Tried to turn everything off, but nothing helped. As many of you stated, this problem didn't occur with 8.1.1 with the same settings, so it has to be software related.

I was not sure if it couldn't be a hardware (read battery) defect on my side so i called apple support and they ran the diagnostic over the web (.. received it over it). The guy said battery is in red state and should be replaced.

Ok, so i bought a new one and replaced it on my own. First battery seemed to be ok and it was much better than before, but drain was still too heavy. So i installed 8.2 beta 4 and yeah.. currently i've got 10h standby with 4 hours display on/in use and still 61% left.

My battery wasn't that good after 1 1/2 year and may have been defect in some kind of way, but the problem was in the end clearly the software.

Had a new iPhone 5s. No battery drain for a few months then at some point I had drainage and tried a million things such as erase phone and install nothing on it and it still drained. Then I was able to replace with a new refurbished phone which fixed the issue but at one point I know I upgraded it and stuck with a power hungry device again that lasts 8hrs on standyby with pretty much no usage (left it unplugged overnight). About 3 hrs of usage. It stays at 100% for 20 mins or so which is weird then starts draining. Went to the applestore and they said the phone is working fine and battery is 100%. But I was out of warranty by 5 days... My wife is stuck with the phone and you know how that is... Meaning I have to buy her a new phone lol.

Wait for the 8.2 update. Seriously. Or install a beta version. 8.2 beta 4 for example. There are tutorials to do it without udid registration and also with registration. I've currently got 2:36h usage and 13h standby and still 76% left. It's a real pain in the *** that apple won't fix this with a small fix and users have to wait for months for an update.
