how do I manually install windows support software (windows support software not detected)

Macbook Pro Retina 15 inch Mid 2014

2.5 Ghz, 16GB RAM

OS X 10.10 (Yosemite)

Currently trying to install Windows 8.1 on my Macbook from a USB, got the error "can't download support software because of a network problem error" but have the 'WININSTALL' disk ready to install.

I have downloaded the support software manually (BootCamp5.1.5640) but don't know how to utilise them so anyone please help me from here?

If you have already downloaded the Boot Camp drivers, the only thing you have to do is to unzip the file and copy the folder to a USB drive. Here you have all the steps you need to do -> Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640

Finally, Boot Camp Assistant should detect it and it will allow you to install Windows.

Ok thank you, do I have to reformat the USB? is there any way to do this without a second USB? I currently only have the USB being used as an install disk. I have an external HDD I could use if it doesn't require reformatting/erasing.

I was informed you could turn the drivers into a .dmg and put it in the directory library/application support/bootcamp or something similar

Hi Loner T, I've been reading some of your posts about the bootcamp problem after upgrading to Yosemite, but I couldn't figure my problem cause it wasn't the same as the one I was reading. This is what my Disk Utility shows after I followed your instructions, could you please help me? Thanks!

I know this is quite an old post. But I had the same problem today.

It works by placing the downloaded and extracted support software in the main folder (where the windows setup.exe and so on is) of the install-USB.

Hope that helps people who are having trouble like me. (Took me more than 2 hours figuring all this out with x tries, where Boot Camp fails to download the support software itself... until I did it myself)
