Can't drag, drop, or move icons from dock

The issue exactly is that I can no longer move icons to the dock, remove them from the dock, reorder them, or delete them. The context menu still works fine, I just can't drag and drop. Furthermore, if I attempt to drag and drop from a stack, it reads the action as if I am trying to open the file.

I'm running Yosemite 10.10.1

Things I've tried so far:

  • Repair disk permissions
  • Repair ACL permissions
  • Rebuild directories
  • Relaunch dock
  • Reset dock to defaults
  • Rebooting/logging out (both fix the problem temporarily, however it returns within an hour of regular use)
  • Trying to hunt down any extensions that might be causing issues...can't find anything (problem persists in guest account as well)
  • Rebuild and repair kexts
  • Cleaned out all caches
  • Reinstalled OS X
  • Wiped disk and performed clean install.

I don't have anything installed that does any low level modifications (no third party antivirus or tweaking/tune up tools). For the life of me I can't figure this one out and it's really getting annoying to not be able to use my dock.

I was having this issue as well. I posted it on Ask Different and a user gave me an interesting solution that fixed it (http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/160187/finder-and-dock-issues-in-osx-10 -10-1).

I use the Push Bullet plugin for Chrome and I had a feature enabled called Universal Copy/Paste. While it was enabled I was unable to do the things described in this thread as well as I was unable to copy and paste or move more than about 83 items in finder at a time.

After disabling the Universal Copy/Paste feature, then restarting, everything has worked perfectly fine. Re-enabling the feature caused the issues to come back. So I am confident that was the cause in my case.

My guess is that there is a bug in UIKit and can only assume that other applications that tie into copy and paste features could be causing the same issue.

It is worth noting that the feature seems to be hidden in the latest version (not sure if this is a bug or on purpose). The checkbox is still there, however it's display is set to none. If you inspect the content of the General tab (in Options) you can force it to show again by following this: http://www.reddit.com/r/PushBullet/comments/2yxly6/has_universal_copy_and_paste_ been_removed_from/cpf8ffs

I have been having this problem too. I have tried the killall dock fix and other system fixes to no avail.

I HAVE FOUND THE EASY FIX THAT SEEMS TO BE WORKING FOR ME:

IF YOU SINGLE CLICK GRAB THE ICON AND MOVE IS AS SOON AS YOU CLICK ON IT YOU CAN MOVE THE ICON. IF YOU WAIT ANY AMOUNT OF TIME BEFORE YOU TRY TO MOVE THE ICON IT WILL NOT MOVE.

Please try this and let me know if it works for others.
